Guest guest
I need help finding a place to get my son's haircut or a way to do it myself without any major anxiety on his part and mind. He has MAJOR sensory issues with a haircut. In the past, it has been suggested to give him reinforcers or recommend certain salons but nothing has worked. I want it to be done without having to restrain him, which cannot really be done anymore. Please let me know your suggestions. Debbie
Guest guest
Debbie, I have the same problems with my son, so I gave up kids salons long time ago and learned to do it myself. Thankfully he has one of those haircuts that can hide mistakes :-) What I do when he needs a haircut is that I set him in front of the tv with his favorite movie or show (dvr and dvd rock!) and work as fast as I can. He also likes music, and sometimes I find something he can get into and keep him entertained. He really hates to feel the hair in his neck and the itching so I bought a salon kids cape, and use warm water to wet his. The are around the ears are tricky so I let him lean on me while I do the opposite one. As you can imagine I end up with as much hair on me as on the floor, but I really don't care, he does not cry, scream or yells for help anymore! Hope this helps. Good luck! Guest guest
My little boy has severe sensory issues with his head so haircuts have been almost impossible for some time now. I cut his hair for the first three years but I just got sick of fighting him so I took him to this place in Homestead called Zoo Cuts and the lady working there is AWESOME!!! She speaks very little English, but she is fluent in the language of Autism, meaning she is so fast and gentle that my little boy doesn't even have time to work up a tantrum before she is finished. Worth every penny! I can find her card if you want more info. haircut I need help finding a place to get my son's haircut or a way to do it myself without any major anxiety on his part and mind.
