Guest guest
At my doctor's recommendation, I am trying something called " PS-100 " for sleep. It is phospatidylserine. The one I'm taking is by Pure Encapsulations. I'm taking two capsules before bed. I did a Web search on it, and it's touted as a natural treatement for dementia and cognitive function. I found a letter from the FDA stating that the research doesn't back up that claim, and that the submitters could not advertise it with that claim. Apparently bodybuilders take it, too. According to my doc, it helps with readjusting cortisol levels so that they are low during the night, when they're supposed to be, and higher during the day, like they're supposed to be. According to her, many people who are awake at night and sleepy during the day have screwed up cortisol levels, reversed from what they're supposed to be. The PS-100 is supposed to help readjust that. Personally, I'm mightily skeptical of claims about that from sites that sell it, since I can't find any good studies, at least online. But I trust my doc and know that she does good research before recommending stuff like this. My sister, who does *not* have fibro, has been taking it for a while. She reports that she doesn't take it every night, because it tends to make her groggy during the day, but that even taking it occasionally helps her with sleeping more soundly at night, even on the nights when she doesn't take it. So she takes it a few times a week and the effect lasts for several days. The jury's still out on its effect on me, but I did get to sleep better, and seemed to sleep more soundly, the two nights that I took it. The first night I slept 7 hours without waking, which is almost unheard of for me. Last night I had some help at 4:30 am (MEOW! MEOW! My dish is empty! MEOW! MEOW!) and 7 am (MEOW! MEOW! I'm up and I want to play! MEOW! MEOW!), but I was able to get back to sleep. I do not know its effect on or interaction with other sleep medications, or anything about side effects. I think this is definitely a " Talk-to-your-doc " thing, esp. if you're taking other things for sleep. Remember, " Natural " does not necessarily mean " Harmless " . Guest guest
Zimmy, I am on 2 boards for Hypothyrodism and one of the many problems folks with hypoT have is screwed up cortisol and they take the PS-100 also. It will not work for you if you do not have screwed up cortisol, but since most of us do, it should work. Good advise to always check with your doc, or at least your pharmatist for interactions with other meds you are taking. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general. 2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better. 3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe 4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense of humor. 5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let us know so that we can do our best to offer our support. Have a nice day everyone. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing the information on PS-100, . Sounds like a good drug. Must be new since it wasn't in one of my drug books. Let us know how it works for you though since I have insomnia problems, too. hugs, Debbie L > > At my doctor's recommendation, I am trying something called " PS- 100 " > for sleep. Let > us know how it works for you though since I have insomnia > problems, too. It's over the counter, btw. I've been taking it for the better part of a week. I had two days this week when I did not have a nap at all in the afternoon. That's a definite change. I seem to sleep more soundly and for longer stretches at night. Z, still hoping

I take two capsules a night. It's not a prescription drug. It's by Pure Encapsulations. I got mine at my doc's office, but I usually get Pure Encapsulation brand stuff at www.illnessisoptional.com.
