I have bad news for those who have CMS TItle 21 and were hoping to get ABA

therapy. I called yesterday the number on the back of the card (for Mental

Health providers)and they informed me that same morning they had received a MEMO

stating CMS will no longer cover ABA. They don't know yet exactly on what date

they will stop coverage though. So unless something changes, this is what the

future is holding for CMS title 21 holders.... Ida

Insurance companies do cover ABA if you are from a large group policy. As far

as I have been able to tell, public schools in FL do not have ABA trained staff

to implement the programs. Some private schools do offer ABA and they also

accept McKay. If you want or need your child to get ABA while at school then

you will have to go the private school route.

educated about it for my son who is in a Broward EH cluster in 4th grade and

needs additional behavior interventions. Is this something that the public

school offers, McKay and Charter schools, or is it something that is only

available from private practitioners? Can it be written into an IEP if the

public schools offer it? And, I'm guessing the health insurance companies don't

cover it. We don't have MedWaiver but we have CMS.

I spoke to univ of Miami yesterday and they didn't inform me of the cancellation of ABA. Guess we are in a waiting period. It's possible you didn't speak to the right person. Iam counting on it.

We should all be very concerned about this. As you may know, the State legislature is considering all sorts of proposals for reducing thebudget deficit, particularly in Medicaid funded programs. The CMS Title 21 iscurrently the only Medicaid funded option that covers ABA. Without this option,we are once again left with only a few being able to access this valuableservice – those who are strong enough financially to be able to pay out ofpocket and the 14% of Floridians whose insurance qualifies under the AutismMandate. It’s important that we speak up. I suggest you not only contact your CMSoffice, but also your State representative, Senators, and the Governor, and letthem know how this funding cut back would affect you personally. Yes, it is very concerning. However, CMS-21 is a DCF program which is why it is being covered at the moment. I have inquired today with several people and will contact the Medicaid Program office tomorrow regarding the status of the Community Behavioral Health handbook which is to be ammended. Right now the handbook specifically excludes the diagnosis of Autism and PDD as covered diagnoses. Once this has been changed, as they have indicated it will be, it may begin to cover the therapy, we will have to wait and see if and how it will be covered. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us http://insurancehelpfl.blogspot.com/.
