Guest guest
I'm looking to buy some educational software for building language, concepts and social skills. I looked into linguisystems and Super Duper which look good. Does anyone have experience with these companies? Also, I'm interested if anyone is looking to sell their used software. My son is 4.5 so I'm looking for Pre-K and Kindergarden level, for high-functioning autism. His vocabulary is good so I'm looking more for developing sentence structure, WH questions and abstract concepts. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Try www.hiyah.net. I've made free educational software, to help kids acquire language. I've basically covered every topic. Guest guest
Thanks Sara! My son watched it and enjoyed the birthday video. You did a great job compiling such an extensive list of topics! I was looking more for an interactive educational game, kind of like the ones on sesame street.org but for autism. My son has a short attention span and he can't sit at the computer unless its a game that he can play. > > > > Subject: Educational software? > To: sList > Date: Saturday, February 26, 2011, 5:52 PM > > > Â > > > > I'm looking to buy some educational software for building language, concepts and social skills. Guest guest
Another option is to get an iPod/iTouch (about $200) and then download apps. Some apps are free, but most cost about $0.99 or more. You can connect the iTouch to your wireless at home and then download the educational apps. Once you've download the apps most work if you're offline. It's great to have a portable learning device. My 5 year old loves it. I'm very happy with the 2 apps I've download from the following site: http://www.conovercompany.com/ipod/apps/ Here is a list of apps that are recommended for autism: http://174.122.132.2/~hubsmom/ To: "sList " <sList >Sent: Mon, February 28, 2011 1:54:56 PMSubject: Re: Educational software? Guest guest
Thanks for all the suggestions! We have the Iphone and have downloaded a few apps for him on it that he loves, but didn't know there were so many more. I'm going to download some more now > > > Â > >Hi Shiri, > > > >Look into NL concepts. > >http://www.nlconcepts.com/products/index.php?main_page=index & cPath=164_111 & zeni\ d=42018d684c435ba0fa1f1d9874333b10 > > > > > >Although I don't have any experience with their software, I love their social > >skills stories. > >http://www.nlconcepts.com/products/index.php?main_page=index & cPath=95_96 > > > >Also for language, try this free website called Starfall: www.starfall.com > > > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > >To: sList > >Sent: Sat, February 26, 2011 5:52:16 PM > >Subject: Educational software? > > > >Â > >I'm looking to buy some educational software for building language, concepts and > >social skills. Guest guest
Yes, in fact almost all the apps work for iPad, but only a few work for iPhone or iPod/iTouch. Apple is releasing the iPad 2 on March 11, for $499. Be sure to get the protective cover and if you buy it through some places (like Best Buy), you can also pay to insure the device it if it breaks. This website tells you by app which ones work for each device (iPad, iPhone/iPod) http://174.122.132.2/%7Ehubsmom/On your iPad click on the App Store icon, then click search and type in the name of the company or the name of the app. My 5 year olds favorites include 1) Search by the company name = Kindergarten.com , see apps (1) Healthy Habits (2) What Rhymes (3) Which Does Not Belong (4) Receptive by Function 2) Search by the company name = The conover company 3) App = iWriteWords Please share your favorites too.
