Guest guest
Here is another one. Hope you can use it. Robin Hi, I really have a bad experience to communicate with my son's teacher this year. Most of the notes sent home were "good day or difficult day", and no notes for days. As a parent, I want to know how he is doing in the school, such as what is he learning, how is his behavior... , I am going to have an IEP next week, and I want to design a communication CHART and present it to the teacher. I know you all go through this with the teachers, bad or good, please offer me some ideas. Thanks Lin

Guest guest
Lin......I'm still going through this and my son is seventeen years old. Please remember that our expectations for our children and their teachers are always evolving......as I believe they should. If the Home Note isn't giving you the information that you need, then try and design one of your own. I've just designed one for my son's teacher that doesn't give her any more paperwork, but it does give me and all of the team members, a combination of behavior information and what my son does/participates in on a daily basis. The teacher/aide can also use the note to chart some of my son's goals, if they are probbing. Wanting more information about what kind of day your child has at school is a valid concern. Don't question yourself about that. Make a rough draft of what kind of Home Note information your looking for so you can show them something. Then sit down with the teacher or team members and see what kind of response you get. Good luck and if you need any suggestions I'd be more then happy to try and help. Guest guest
Hi, when we started at a new school the autism coach worked with me to develop a home note form. This form has areas that the teacher can circle or check off that makes it easier for her and some places for text. This makes everyone's life easier. Never feel bad about wanting to know more. A good teacher values parent involvement but you do need to respect the fact that a teacher has limited time too. Guest guest
You should't go to an IEP without an Advocate. Guest guest
What is the purpose of the IEP? Get a draft copy this week. Tell the ESE Specialist to send it home with your son.
