Re: medic alert tags and question......(sort of OT)

I have been wanting a tag for YEARS now...used to have one, promptly lost it...but I want one that is PRETTY...and omg, so is the price! ($600!) I can't wear silver, I turn green! Ack...I worry there won't be enough space to add new info on it, over time...

Question part:

I had surgery recently. I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs. I get into the prep room...and they are ready to give me Heparin (geez, I had to off my meds so that my blood would clot...and now you are giving me a blood thinner?!) and Cephelasporin. Something says...halt! I have a vague memory of Cephelasporin being an issue for me. I am told, well, this is the alternative for penicillin. Hmmm. I still don't feel 'right about it', but OK, I let it go ... they give me my pick line and hook me up....and what happens within MINUTES? My arm gets ALL red and itchy. Before they have time to get me Benadryl, my arm veins are all puffed up! I am told that the drip was too fast. Hmm...then why did they run to get the Benadryl?? I feel as though I *don't* REALLY know what antibiotics I am allergic to...other than the penicillin and the sulfas.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do others also *wonder*? since we end up *firing* doctors that don't listen to us...prior to getting diagnoses? I wonder what has been 'lost' in my medical journey...make sense?

I now keep a journal....but that is only in the last year. I have been 'sick' since I was a teen.

I don't know about the price tags... but what you might really

need is one of those medic alert key chains that have a thumb

drive on them, with your medical info, contact info, etc.
