Guest guest
Hi all...I am new to Listen Up. I am the mom of 2 boys, one 5 with normal hearing and one 2 1/2 with bilateral hearing loss (moderate to severe). My son, , was diagnosed and has been aided since 13 months. We have been just finished our time in the Early On program, where my son was being seen by a teacher from the auditory oral HI program since he was 18 months. is still not making many sounds, no babbling or attempts to speak. His audiologists say that by the looks of his audiograms, he hears well with the aids and should be able to learn to talk. I am becoming very disheartened because noone can tell me why he is not making more noise. He was also recently diagnosed with a genetic disorder called CHARGE syndrome, which has hearing loss as a major characteristic. 's receptive language skills are a little behind, but OK. We have started teaching him some signing to decrease frustration. Anyone else have a toddler who is not yet making any noises. Idon't know if we should give up hope that he will talk. When is it time to give say that talking isn't going to happen?
