Guest guest
Hi, can anyone tell me that in periods of great emotional stress, can fibro cause severe onset of neck & head pain? I ask because my stress levels have been off the scale over the past 6 months, firstly with my teeange daughter being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma & then two months later my father finding out he had stomach cancer. Now today, I find out that because of one hosp has being incompetent in making my daughter wait to long in between treatments, she has to have yet more chemo tomorrow when she should have finished a month ago. After I was told this I developed a severe pain in my neck & the left side of my head. I have looked up this on the net & it mentions TMJ which I suffer with anyway & have to wear a mouth guard at night due to me breaking my teeth more than once in the past. The depression is bad right now too. Could this pain be due to fibro or do I need to see my GP? Thanks Michele
Guest guest
Hey Michele, First, I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter & your father. That's an unbelievable amount of stress for anyone to handle. I can tell you that in periods of increased stress I get bad head, neck & sometimes shoulder pain. I know mine is caused from my muscles constricting, bulging up & pulling on my head & my spine. I'll get really bad headaches & sometimes bad dizzyness. Usually a trip to my chiro, some muscle relaxers & /or pain med.'s & a bit of rest will help in a few days...for me anyway. If you don't think it's muscular then you should probably see your dr. just in case...esp. since you already have TMJ. My thoughts are with you & your family. Guest guest
Michele, Even without FMS, stress can cause severe pain. My fiance gets severe neck and back pain which in turn causes headaches when he is very stressed. The headache is usually caused from the back muscles tensing. I've got some Flexeril I take when I feel my back tensing. I've had to take two in the last couple days because I've been painting the fence in my backyard and since I've been bent over in awkward positions for 2 days, my back was starting to spasm. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry about your daughter. And your dad. You have had more than your share of grief. I'm not an expert, but from what I've experienced and heard about stress=pain. Unless it's something specific, I know my neck and shoulders always tighten up badly when I'm stressed, but if it would make you feel better and it's different from fibro pain, a trip to the doc wouldn't hurt. Better safe than sorry. Good luck with your daughter. Guest guest
I think you're under a tremendous amount of stress and yes, it is probably the cause of your neck and head pain. Can you get any relief from heat and pain relievers? I would be very depressed also if I were dealing with what you are, so if you need to, ask about increasing your anti-d's or get extra counseling or something to help you cope. If the neck/head pain gets worse or won't go away, then I would see the GP. I will pray for you and your family.
