Guest guest
No one in our families is taking this genetic thing seriously. I used to think it wouldn't bother me, but it does. My sister, who has had certain issues all her life, has started feeling weak and tired lately, all over bad, and she always had bad teeth and thinning hair-even when we were kids. I told her that I really want her to see her doctor especially since both our parents carried the markers. She said 'I'll have to give up what????'. I told her wheat, rye, barley, oats, beer, etc...'. She said 'forget that!' and didn't want to talk about it anymore. I am worried about her and she doesn't want to be bothered with it. I know I shouldn't let it bother me but I really care about these people and would love to see them all feeling better. Guest guest
Zanna you'll find that many of us have families just like yours. My mother and sister, who are walking textbook cases of celiac disease, point blank refuse to get tested because then they'll have to give up the foods they like. My sister is 5ft5 and weighs 88lbs. Has osteoporosis, thyroid problems and according to the rest of us, mental problems. LOL. what does she do to try to bulk up? eats lots of bread. She complains about having permanent diarrhea and stomach aches. I have CD, my children have CD, my grandfather died of colon cancer, his wife had rheumatoid arthritis, most of my cousins exhibit signs of CD and yet they won't be tested. My cousin's 6 year old daughter is a textbook juvenile case and she won't have the child tested because she doesn't want to have the hassle of dealing with a gluten free diet. This is the one that drives me crazy. It's one thing to make a bad decision about your own health, but it is totally wrong to do that on behalf of your children. shez
Guest guest
No one in my family or my husband's family will get tested, probably for the same reason. I've pondered talking to my SIL's doctor who I knew well when he was in residency. Only problem is they live in OH and I live in FL.
