When your developmentally disabled child turns 18 years, a parent is no longer their child’s legal guardian. In order to have legal authority continue assisting their child with financial and medical decisions it may be necessary for a parent to become a ‘guardian advocate’ and obtain guardianship over their son or daughter through the court system. Ms. Hazeltine will explain the guardianship process and the alternatives to guardianship under Florida law.
