Guest guest
The next person that says you don't have pain and it is all in your head.... tell them to just try for one day to " imagine " that someone beat them with a board and try try with all their might to MAKE their body hurt with just the thought. IT WONT HAPPEN. We do not have to ability to create pain with our thoughts. BS. Tell them to sit there and visualize and imagine they have pain in their big toe or something.... I will bet they can't MAKE it hurt unless they hit it with something. (or unless they have fibro... then they don't need to try to make pain happen). OK...if it is created by my thoughts, then by all means I want them to " think " themselves into the pain we suffer everyday and see if it happens. Guest guest
Ive had someone tell me that pain is caused by emotional trauma from our past and that i can cure my mgiraines, fibro and bipolar by clearing up my emotional trauma. yes, seriously i had them tell me this. The thing that was ironic about this was that i am a pretty emotional secure person, and any past traumas like child abuse in the past etc, i dealt wiht years ago.. I think that was on a different level than just " its in your head " but fits into the same idea. its not real, you just need to fix your head and itll go away. You try it then.. > The next person that says you don't have pain and it is all in your > head.... tell them to just try for one day to " imagine " that someone > beat them with a board and try try with all their might to MAKE > their body hurt with just the thought. Guest guest
I spoke yesterday with a local FM sufferer about childhood trauma and its effect on our adult lives. When it comes to our memories, trauma is like a hot branding iron. It sears the memory or image in our minds forever, you never forget it. The emotional/physical pain of the trauma can diminish with time, figuring out what to do with the memory is a task and people develop a coping mechanism in order to function with day to day activities. Triggers like stress, or a specific sound, or smell does catch us off guard and the old trauma can rise to the surface. It's a bear to put back into our coping mechanisms. Like my recent " Creature From Fibro Lake " , it eventually did slip back beneath the surface. People around us who do not have FM have a wild west medicine show mentality, offering their snake oil advice for whatever ails us. And the Granny advice can run along the lives of, " It's just your nerves dear, take a nap,...you'll feel better " .
