Guest guest
Sad. So many of us wonder about this everyday. Growing up a family near where I lived had a child who was severely mentally retarded. The mother was told by the church that there was a catholic order of nuns whose charitable work was to take care of these people when there family couldn't do it anymore. Unfortunately, there are so few people becoming nuns now days that I doubt they still have an order who does this, and there are very few places that we can afford to private pay for care after we are gone. In Florida, it seems that there are a lot of people who are trying to block payment for these services by APD, at places that we as parents think would be the best environment for our child. So, that doesn't look promising either. It is something I worry about a lot. Who will take care of my precious, wonderful son when I am no longer able to. Guest guest
For anyone who didn't see Parade this week here is the link to a very good article when our kids grow up and become adults with autism. Very appropriate timing on this article, considering the current situation with the funding cuts. http://www.parade.com/health/autism/featured/autisms-lost-generation.html Regards, Ven Sequenzia President Autism Society of America State of Florida Chapter Re: Fwd: Who Will Care For Dana | Parade.com Sad.
