Guest guest
April 8, 2011 Budget Talks Strongly Impact Disability Community The House of Representatives Budget Committee Chairman (R-WI) introduced an FY 2012 Budget Resolution earlier this week The Budget Resolution includes a $1 trillion over 10 years. This is an important issue for the disability community because virtually all adult long term services and supports which enable individuals with Down syndrome to live and work in the community are funded through Medicaid. If these cuts are actually made, it may result in receive a block grant from the federal government (money to state and local governments to support health, education and other domestic programs which reduce federal responsibility) in exchange for state flexibility in administering the Medicaid program. That could have the effect of states limiting who is eligible and what services are received. The budget resolution, while a very important part of the process, is only a blueprint for determining which is actually part of a final budget plan.
