Action Alert

April 11, 2011

Gov. ’s April 1st rate cut to services has created a crisis that threatens thousands of people with developmental disabilities. For more information, click here. Parents and advocates need to react now to reverse this action.

Action Needed.

If your love one has had their services have been reduced or terminated, report it to either:

(www.sos-florida.com or http://disabilityrightsflorida.org/resources/disability_topic_info/category/dd_waiver_provider_rate_cuts/ .

Visit the local office of your own Representative and Senator. Tell the staff why services are important to you and what it will mean to lose them. You do not need any talking points to do this. Make what you tell them as personal as possible.

Visit by yourself or band together with other parents and hold a rally in front of their office. If you decide to hold a local rally, let them and your local press know you are coming in advance. Be sure to be polite. You are asking for their help and they did not cause the rate cuts that went into effect on April 1.

A Facebook page for people to share their experiences related to the cut is at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Our-Children/123662484375873?sk=wall.

Contact Gov. Rick and tell him he has to find another way to balance his budget. People with DD did not cause his agency to over spend its budget and should not pay for anyone else’s mistakes.

Gov. Rick ’s contact info is:

Fax

Contact Sen. President Haridopolos and ask him for his help. Tell him you are counting on him to find a way to reverse the cuts.

Contact all appropriation committee members listed below. Tell them that providers are cutting staff and closing their doors.

Thank the House members, especially Rep. Hudson for making services to people with developmental disabilities a priority and explain that you are counting on them to hold their position on not cutting services. Tell the Senate members that they must find a way to help you and your child or loved one.

Message to Senators: “I need you help to keep my loved one receiving servicesâ€.
