stomach before meals. i still ate for breakfast, a light lunch, and by supper i

could not handle it. i know you still have to take insulin on sick days as i am

a type one diabetic. so i managed to eat two thin slices of dry toast and half a

cup of tea. i took my usual insulin which is four hunits of humalog. i know you

remember me as i am karen from canada. and i learned a lot from you a few years

ago. did i do the right thing. please advise. thanks, karen from canada

, When feeling sick be sure to do a glucose monitor test before you consume

any thing like food, drink or drugs, Then you will know how many carbs you can

tolerate without shooting your blood sugar sky high.

,

Not Harry here, but when you're ill or in your case, following a medical

procedure, don't worry about a few days where your blood sugars and control in

general aren't what they should be. Serious complications caused by diabetes

happen after many years of poor control. I'd suggest checking your blood sugars

more often, and if you are really high (whatever this is for you), take some

extra Humalog. IF you're unable to eat, cut back on your insulin. But check to

see what your numbers are, and make adjustments based on the numbers. Again, if

food will be a problem, cut back on the insulin.
