Premarin Shortage - Bulletins

I am on Premarin 0.625 and that's why I've not heard any thing.

I learned that when I just went onto Google and found these memos from

Merck-Medco, the largest home delivery pharmacy in the country:

Premarin shortage: 1.25 mg dispensing limited to 30-day supplies at

Merck-Medco home delivery pharmacies

Merck-Medco recently received an alert from drug maker Wyeth-Ayerst about a

nationwide shortage of its drug Premarin in 1.25 and 2.5 strength tablets.

Other available strengths - 0.3 mg, 0.625 mg, 0.9 mg - are not affected. No

reason for the shortage has been disclosed by the manufacturer.

Due to this shortage, prescriptions for Premarin 1.25 mg strength

tablets are limited to a 30-day supply through Merck-Medco Home Delivery

Pharmacies for an unspecified time period beginning Fri., Oct. 5. The cutback

effects only 1.25 mg strengths of Premarin. This limited supply will help us

maintain a sufficient supply of Premarin until the manufacturer resumes

production in December. Member copayments for all clients will be prorated

according to the quantity dispensed.

All prescriptions for 2.5 mg strength tablets will continue to be filled in

the prescribed quantity until the supply is depleted. At that time,

Merck-Medco will alert the prescribing physician to the shortage and obtain

an alternative. A member letter will be included to alert the member to the

approved substitution.

Thanks for this info. It just backs up what the pharmacist has been

telling me! I believed him, of course, just didn't understand the

reason why. This is a tremondious help. Thank you, ma'am. I should

have been smart enough to do the google thing. I use google more

than anything else on the web! Just hadn't thought about it. Thanks

again.
