My daughter did have a sweat test done and it was negative. That's all the

farther it went. She has no CF. Since this has been brought to my

attention...the next time we see her pediatrician...I'm going to look into

having her tested as a carrier. See if they can do it. I know we weren't

tested yet to see which one of us carries the Delta F508 gene that our son

has. Insurance won't pay for too many of these tests.

A question? How many of you use a vacuum cleaner that doesn't take a bag?

We'd like to purchase the Wind Tunnel. Is this, bagless, better for CFer's?

They cost over 300.00 dollars and we wanted to see if SSI would pay for it.

I think it has a Hepafilter on it so that allergens aren't redistributed back

into the air or carpet.

Thanks for the replies,

Would insurance pay for this? Someone was telling me that they might pay for

a aircleaner for our house has anyone else heard this? We would really like

to get one we are currently trying the airsource by shackle they are letting

us try it first and I do think it has helped but it cost $699. which is very

expensive but if it works and there is less maintenance on it then I would

like to get it. But it would really be great if insurance would pay for some

of it. Deb A

Deb,

I don't think our ins. will cover for a Hepifilter vacuum (wind Tunnel ). 2

years ago we needed an air conditioner for . Insurance wouldn't pay for

this. But, since has SSI, we were able to use his money for this. We

also needed to get a prescription from the Dr. stating that this will benefit

his health and that he needed it. Get this, the only place we are allowed to

put it is in his bedroom. Come on!!!! Where do kids spend most of their

time in the Summer? In their room? I should have MADE them allow for us to

get Central Air. That way our whole house would be air conditioned.

I noticed your conversation about getting a DNA test done on your

daughter. My older daughter has a few symptoms of CF as well and I was

extremely anxious, even though they immediately did a sweat test and it

was below 10. I just keep thinking and thinking and thinking about how

she pooped through her diaper every day and usually two to three times a

day until she was about 1 years old. Her stools have always been very

soft and liquidy. Her day care at the time finally threatened to kick

her out after she pooped all over their exercsaucer, it was so bad. I

think the fact that the one woman at the center absolutely adored her

kept her in, plus I asked what they thought I should do to resolve it

(they too had no answers). She also overheats when she sleeps and is

always sweaty at night but doesn't really taste like salt. To say, I was

a little anxious was an understatement. I finally talked to her

pediatrician and they said they couldn't do the test that it was to

specialized and that I would have to talk to the CF center. I went in to

our CF center and just told them that for my piece of mind that I needed

the DNA test done on my older daughter as well. They did it that same

day. Our insurance paid for it but I was told that it costs about $200

if insurance doesn't cover it. I would have gladly paid this, it was

driving me so crazy with worry. There is only one test and it determines

if they are a carrier or if they have CF. Unfortunately, the test we had

done didn't test for all CF mutations, only 80 or so. I wish she had the

Ambry test done as that would have trully given me piece of mind since

Isabelle did come up as a carrier. Anyway, my point is, you probably

want to speak to your CF center about the test and if insurance won't

pay, expect the price to be around $200.

Is the type of vacuum you use significant for CFers. I am a new mom and was

not advised about any problems associated with using a traditional vacuum.

Last summer I bought a bagless Eureka vacuum cleaner at Sams Club for

$150.00. This model also has a Hepa filter and the vacuum works great!

It really picks up a lot of stuff my older upright didn't plus it was a

pain having to change the bag. The model I have is called the Big Cup

and you can see thorugh it. Vacuuming 1600 square feet of carpet fills

up the cup twice.

I don't know if makes any difference as far as Becky's CF or not. But it

sure gets the carpets clean!

Jen,

No, I was not told that there are any problems using traditional vacuums. I

was just wondering if the hepa filter vacuums would be better. They filter

the particles and have no bags. Just go outside and empty them into a

garbage bag.

I'd love one of these!
