Guest guest
Browne co-wrote Take It Easy with Glenn Frey of the Eagles who sang lead vocals on the Eagles' track. It was the Eagles' first single and was released on May 1, 1972 according to Wikipedia. Alan Lemly Way off topic! was: Re: to day is weigh in day for the pig. Hey, Mark! Really on topic here! Had to go do a little surfing to make sure of the lyrics, at least, part of the lyrics: Well I'm a-running down the road trying to loosen my load I've got seven women on my mind Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me One says she's a friend of mine Take it easy, take it easy Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy Lighten up while you still can Don't even try to understand Just find a place to make your stand and take it easy (Here's where I got this: http://www.springsteenlyrics.com/lyrics/t/takeiteasy.php) It's a Bruce Springsteen site I guess, but it says these lyrics are from the original Brown song. I thought, like someone else mentioned, it was an Eagles song. I'm with you about the 60s and 70s music! I know a few 80s, but once Christian contemporary music came around (in the 80s), I quit listening to regular pop music. But no doubt about it, the 60s and 70s music really ushered in a new era, and I've got about 50 or so classics on my little mp3 player I often listen to at bedtime. Guest guest
I've always heard there is a web site to go and see the real words to a song. I suppose I just always like adding my own instead. kind of takes the fun out of it when you know the true words. really do appreciate hearing the words though. the brain is getting kind of foggy now and kind of hard to see back that far in a clear kind of way. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
love the Eagles, but that song Hotel California is a song I can't figure out and I do know the right words. even during my drugs days when I stayed stoned, I still couldn't figure it out. You can check out any time you please, but you can never leave. they stab it with there spearie knives, but they just can't kill the beast. still love the Eagles even to day, but wouldn't go to one of there live conserts now for free if they were doing a consert. listen to the CD and be much happier. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
Maybe in a way the Hotel California song is saying that like that ad you can take Salem out of the country but you can't take the country out of Salem. LOL. I heard a nasty joke that is not fit for a family group that is a take off on that ad. But maybe it means you will always be dependent on the drugs like the alcohol treatment programs say you are just one drink away from going back off the wagon. I have asked about that song because I could not figure it out. I have never been an addict or an alcoholic although I like the tast of some drinks, such as rum and Coke. Do we as diabetics have to stay clear of alcohol or is a drink once in a while on a holiday or something OK. I am going to the Olive Garden sometime within the next month I hope, kind of a girls' lunch out with my daughter and a good friend of mine. I would like to tip a nip there. I did last September have two drinks of hot chocolate with kahlua. I imagine if we don't abuse it. I am only on orl medication, not insulin and don't know if that makes any difference. I also had a beer last summer on our front porch when the kids were having a grilling party. Guest guest
I know you can have a few low carb beers and maybe some small amounts of the hard stuff, but mixing it with juice and pop may not be a good idea unless it was a diet pop or water. I ate some Chinese food last night with some friends and I knew my sugar would be to high after that. I rode my bike for one hour after eating it and my sugar at bed time was 130. don't even wish to know what it could have been with out one hour on the no where bike. however, that hot spicy chicken was grate and the egg roll was even better. didn't eat no nasty rice though. could have tore a bucket of pork fried rice plum up, but no better now. Chinese though isn't the food of choice for us who are diabetic, but some times you got to slip over the edge and walk the plank! I suppose having alcohol is no different then eating food. have small amounts and be smart about it and you should be fine. always write a note about what you ate or drank that may have raised your sugar and remember the next time what happened when you partook of it. I got a note book of little reminders as this and they help a lot to make me recall the past. that little meter really is my best buddy now and it is by my side like a dog, man's best friend. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
One of the interesting things about music (i.e. the lyrics) from that era is the nonsense seen in the lyrics. Guest guest
I'm sad to admit this, but done lots of acid when a drug head back in the seventy's. when I done this drug I could still see and many different colors did I see along with many lights. even when there was only one or two lights I seen thousands of lights and the colors were out of this world for sure. maybe the sub they were in may have looked yellow to them? I have never liked that group. now you wish to talk about the beach boy's? really did dig this group. never can't much for the rolling stones either, but you would think as a druggy I would have dog such a band? don't worry though, haven't done any kind of drug now since the late seventy's and won't either. no alcohol except for a low carb beer from time to time. I get high on Jesus now and he is my drug of choice. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
Were you partially blind then, and how was the drug taken? The only one I tried was pot. Becky to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
no I wasn't totally blind, but never seen well enough to not get in trouble do to being blind. an old drug head as I was never worried about seeing what I was putting in my mouth or my arm. the goad was to get stoned and what ever I used would get me where I wished to be. not proud of those day's and most of the guys and girls I hung with back then are mostly all dead from a over dose or they are messed up in the head and don't know who they are or any one else. I have no clue why I even done that crap other then wanting to fit in with the croud or maybe I just thought nothing bad could ever happen to me. I dug grass, but even Jane could cost a lot if you wanted the best. I tried it all. didn't matter to me if you had to use a needle to get it to the blood stream or just take it like a pill. smoke it, suck it up through my nose or what ever. the goal was to get stoned and kick back. everything was funny when stoned and nothing made much sense. like Forest Gump always said, stupid is as stupid does! the only drug I done way back in my stupid day's that I actually liked a lot and the high was cleaner then most drugs, was hash. I never had any sense when it came to pills or what ever the drug was. people would say this will do that and cause you to feel like this and it only cost you $5 a pill. so I would buy 5 pills and take a few. If I didn't get as high as I wanted to be, then I would take one more. Acid was always a cheap drug and would kick your butt in the dirt for a good solid eight hours for only $3 a hit. all kinds of names they would call it, but the bottom line was acid by any name was still just acid. PCP, THC Angel dust, no matter what name they gave it or got you to buy it was the key. speed, well it come in ten or twenty different looks, but speed would always make you go faster and feel like you needed to go faster. then there was downers, they made you feel down and kind of mellow state of mind. upper's and downers, go fast and then slow down, drop some acid and clime the walls, smoke some grass or hash and just feel mellow or laugh at everything that happened around you. most of my drug trips were fine and I never wanted to jump off a bridge or run out in front of a big truck to kiss it. I seen many guys go on some bad trips from drugs and it really messed them up for life. I never got hooked or dependent on any drugs I ever tried and this was due to God taking care of me for a plan he had for my life. hard to figure out why most of my buddies then died or are totally messed up now and I was spared? God has a plan for each of us and no matter how hard we fight to do it our way, in the end we will carry out his plan for our life. I certainly am glad God is in charge and it isn't just me making all the decisions. 5 years of alcohol and drugs. ten years of grass. 25 years of no exercise and over eating, but always knowing God was right there keeping his eyes on me and picking me up when I gave up on my self. I was a born again Christian in 1977, but had to back slide so far back that I figured God couldn't locate me no more. well once you become a child of God's he isn't ever going to turn his back on you ever! I certainly turned my back on him, but he never for got me. I've tried many times to just live stupid and make really bad choices and still I live. I've tried to destroy what God made and still I'm here. God has a plan and I'm going to carry out that plan kicking and screaming if need be. I'm now 55 and it's a wonder I have made it this far. I know lots of people I went to school with who never done lots of the crazy stupid crap I have and they died way to young, yet I still live. why? well it isn't for me to know the answer to this q. even back in 2007 when I had my first heart attack that done 25% damage to the left side of my heart and then ten days later I coded for 26 minutes before they could get my ticker to beating once again and I still live. the doctor's and nurses said I was a miracle! I was in the hospital for 29 days that month of August. then I have to go back to the hospital for a pile of times during the past five years do to the heart and high sugar and still I live. they told me I all most purchased the farm this last time the end of February with the A fib, but still I live. but yet I hear all the time there is no God or none of that would have happened to me. folks as this are entitled to have there own opinion, but for the life of me I can't see or understand how they can believe there is no God who is large and in charge! for 2 months now I got it together and I got it going right because I trust and believe in the fact there is a true loving God who I know personally. I now live and breath because of a loving God who has a plan for my life and I will live until that plan he has for me is finished. then I will go home to be with Jesus for ever with no more pane or blindness! no more struggles or thorns to bare! that will be a glories day and I'm ready right now, but if God says to remain and continue on with this life after all I have been through trying to destroy my self and not getting it done, then I will and I will love every moment of it because my God has a plan for me and I wish to carry out that plan because he loves me so much. I couldn't be eating right or exercising every day as I do or controlling my diabetes as I'm doing with out the strength from my Jesus. makes you wonder as it makes me wonder, why wasn't I gave the tools I needed to do back then that I have now? well God has thoughts and plans much different then us and his timing isn't like our timing. one million years to God is like one day and the other way around. we can't know the answers and couldn't understand if we did know. I wasn't suppose to have the tools back then. I wasn't ready. I had to go through all that stuff in order to be prepared for now. I had no clue that I was trying to destroy my self the past thirty years plus, but it is exactly what I was about. we can't live life in a way that we ignore what the good books tells us and make stupid and crazy choices and expect all will be fine when and if we ever figure it out down the road. we don't know how much time we got in this life. we have no way of knowing how our health is going to react do to bad choices we make with our health. many folks done a lot less then I done and they don't have a to morrow to make it right. why? only God know's the answer. maybe they had all ready carried out the plan God had for them. maybe there early exit from this world was what they had to do in this life. don't for get, some one is always watching us. how we live, how we react to life, how we tell our stories, how we feel about this, that and the other. always some one or many are watching to see how we will react to life and the struggles that life will bring to all. your life will always reach out and touch others in some way. don't make the mistake by thinking no one ever notices what you do or how you deal with life in general. life is like a big class room and we are learning all the time. we don't stop learning until we stop breathing. your struggles may be to help folks you don't even know or ever will know. the same goes for me. God is large and he is in charge! who am I or you or any one else to question God's methods of how he does it all? I tried for years to do every kind of stupid I could think of to take me out of this world. I had not a clue that was what I was doing, but it is the facts. wasn't going to happen though until I have carried out the plan for my reason for being in this life at this time. I certainly can't figure out why now after all that has happened to me that I finally now have the right attitude to do what I have to do to loose weight and control my sugar. I'm here to tell you from the bottom of my big old pig heart, the last 2 months has been so easy, so smooth, I'm so in toon, I don't even have to remember to ride my no where bike or make good choices when I eat away from home. I finally gave up doing it all my way and told God that I was fresh out of strength to get the job done. this is when he gave me the attitude and tools I need to do what I'm now doing. I never could figure any of this out until 2 months ago, the last time I went to the hospital. saying I trusted him and saying I believed in him and saying he was God wasn't enough. I had to prove it with not trying to do it all by my self and 2 months ago I gave it all to him and told him I was fresh out of ability to get it done through my own strength. why did I fight him for so many years? why couldn't I see the answers were right there in front of me to see? sure is a good thing I'm not God, because I would have gave up on me long ago and I would have stopped loving me long ago. I would have allowed me to destroy my silly self and move on to the guy that loved me and cared. it is just so cool to look back on my days of drugs and alcohol and over eating and just living in a state of stupid and know that God never gave up on me! here I am at the age of the double nickel and I got it all going right now and it is all so easy, simply because it isn't my strength that is getting the job done. it is all his and I'm allowing him to do so through me. I love talking about my messed up day's and how I was thinking all that time, because I can look back on it all and see God's hands all over it. I am ashamed of most of the stupid things I done and just being so selfish with my thinking, but yet if not for God's plan for my life, I may have checked out a long time ago. some one is watching my life and they are learning from it so they can carry out there plan as well. so I will do my part and be thankful for the chance to please my Lord. I'm so blessed to be alive and I certainly don't deserve it if you ask me, but I'm not in charge or the one in control of how he feels. life is grate! loosing weight is grate! controlling my sugar is grate! making smart choices is grate! I certainly do still have other issues in my life and there is still lots to work on, but right now this small part of me that was out of control for so many years is now in God's hands and out of mine. I sure do appreciate you guys listening to me ramble like I just done. I sure don't set out to ramble, but I believe at times like this the Holy Spirit gets in control of my fingers and they fly over the keyboard and that is just how it is! to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
A drink every so often is okay. What you mix the alcohol with is the problem for diabetics as so many mixes have a bunch of carbs in them also some drinks have more sugar in them like rum. My doc says I can have one drink a day, just don’t save up and drink 7 all at the same time! I don’t drink even that, but maybe once or twice a month will have a glass of white wine, or occasionally a shot of scotch or amaretto on ice or in coffee.\\\ _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Lora Leggett Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2012 10:37 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: Take It Easy Song Maybe in a way the Hotel California song is saying that like that ad you can take Salem out of the country but you can't take the country out of Salem. Guest guest
I tried red dry and white dry wine and found them all to taste so nasty. I told a buddy they tasted like horse piss, but really can't say that cause I can't recall ever trying horse pee. don't think I could admit to it even if I did. the sweet wine is the best, but then that sugar in it isn't good for me. I suppose you do get use to the taste of dry wine after a while and maybe even learn to like it, but so far I can't seem to locate one that I can drink with out making a silly face. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
More than 2 years ago, I went to see the Eagles at the Hollywood Bowl. They were outstanding! _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2012 10:30 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: Take It Easy Song love the Eagles, but that song Hotel California is a song I can't figure out and I do know the right words. even during my drugs days when I stayed stoned, I still couldn't figure it out. Guest guest
I will admit they are in my top ten rock bands of all times for me that is. I also like super tramp, bob Seeger, guess who, Vanhaylon, Fleet wood Mack, Dire straights, BTO, and Lenard Skinner to just name a few. I also like old country and very little of the new country. love the blues and some jazz. some disco I like, but not all. Christian rock or country rock I also like. don't seem to be as many good bands any more though or I'm just getting to old. I have noticed that a lot of the bands we use to go pay good money to see in places that would hold 20,000 people, now play at a lot of casino's that will only hold maybe 2000. don't know if they are flat busted or just can't give up the music. I suppose when you can do something for a living like sing and play it is just hard to give it up no matter the age. Actually it would be really difficult for me to actually make a top ten list of my very favorite bands of all the different types of music I like to listen to. maybe a list for each kind, but never just ten over all. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
I agree with that too. and I like the sweet wines and think the dry ones taste like crap. We used to drink things like Boone's Farm and Pear Ripple and I used to like MD2020. I can't imagine how much sugar must be in those. they don't even make Ripple anymore I don't think. Our daughter is really into wines and they always think they are so sophisticated and some of that stuff tastes so nasty, LOL .. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
Thanks, . I am glad I don't have to totally give it up. I would not have it that often anyway but at least if something comes up like the 4th of July and the kids have a party I could have one and it shouldn't do that much. But it is easier to walk away the longer I don't have one. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
That is cool. I saw Bob Seger when I was in high school and he came to our school. He had not made it nationally yet. I would like to see that high school try to get him now, LOL. to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
better make it a winning guess. a lady on another list just guessed I will drop 35 pounds in only one month! I promised to clean her house and wash her clothes and wash her feet and clean the windows. then promised to fluff her pillow and make her breakfast in bed the next morning and promised to sing her to sleep! I can certainly do the same for you if you are as well going to guess 35 pounds in only one month? to day is weigh in day for the pig. Guest guest
mad dog 20 20! have got so falling down drunk on that nasty stuff to many times to count. I believe this is why I gave up drinking and started smoking grass. Jane never caused me to throw up down my leg or wake up with a hang over that kept me from walking up right for the whole day. on my knees or crawling is all I could do. then I would tell God if he would only make me feel much better I would never touch the nasty drink again! then the next weekend would roll around and my fat pig butt was right back at the club throwing it down once again. I actually know a few people that say they have never had a hang over and never does alcohol give them a headache the next day. I think this is really a bad thing for them. the hang over's is exactly why I gave it up. to day is weigh in day for the pig.
