Kale is really poke salad? well this is a new one on me for sure. might have

I think there is branch lettuce that is just available now. That is like ramps

which are kin to onions. You eat a raw ramp in the spring to shed your winter

skin.

My mother fixed a salad similar to this early in her marriage to my father. She

expected him at a certain time but he was kept late at work. She had poured the

hot grease before the time she expected him. by the time he got home it was cold

but he ate it and it about killed him.

well it is true if you pick it at the wrong ime of the season, then poke will

make you very sick or even cause death. I never learned as a child when to pick

it or not. parents are both gone now and not seeing these days, I don't plan to

take a chance my self. but that poke salad was really some fine eaten if you

grew up around it as I did.

Maybe I've never had it, but it sounded like you were describing greens or

kale.

Yes, and Elvis made a version of that song too. We are big Elvis fans

around here and our son's name is Elvis.
