Guest guest
As a person with autism I am protected by the Lanterman Act of California which allows me to make choices about self-advocacy and how I want to be perceived and influence advocacy and is protected under the law. People say at times should not make judgments of Ari of ASAN yet his group does all the time of others they do not know. While I understand a self-advocate of any kind creating awareness is important and an achievement it does not mean it's bad to disagree with him nor should others feel pressured to. A diversity of thinking and opinion existing under one leadership type is a true democratic ideal and respect laws of the land concernign self-advocacy rights. I dont want to fill up this message board but I want to take a moment becuase this topic is very important to me. I want you to realize there are different kinds of approaches in advocacy. The kind I support as a person with a diagnoses of autism which is different then Asperger's Syndrome is that of positivity that coexists with autism the label as a disability, friendship creating and social progress in balance. Here is the impression I get from ASAN and what I prefer to it. 1. My Impression of ASAN - You are a bigot and hate me unless you agree with me. When you have compassion and arrange marches to create awareness you are making a pity of me. Unless you change how you use that money that may or may not result in abortion even if it is for a cure for adverse symtoms to seek a cure for me it is an insult. 2. How I wish to be represented by networks - Thank you for caring and bothering in the first place. Can we please focus on adult inclusion more. Some people with autism experience isolation and while I am frustrated about this I really want you to march sometimes to end exclusion and increase hope as well. Can we please work together and also raise money for inclusion. Young
