We are into the final hours of conference meetings and the need for communication is critical. The provider rate cuts seem like a done deal, the only issue that remains open is funding the APD deficit for the current fiscal year. The House has agreed to fund it in full, but the Senate has only agreed to fund about half of it, which will lead to bigger cuts, because the APD is mandated to spend within its budget now, so if there is this big loss, the money will end up coming out of somewhere else. Here’s what we can do. We need to communicate with Senator Mike Haridopolos. As the Senate President, he is the most influential person in the Senate. He has been really supportive and understanding of our cause, and he made the commitment to the governor to take care of this issue.

His office needs to hear from us this afternoon! They need to hear: “Thank you for your commitment to fund the deficit, which helped to reverse the Governor’s decision. Please continue to be a champion for people with developmental disabilities. Please work with your Senators to fully fund line 81.
