Thank you for taking the time to contact me about this important issue. Florida is facing one of the most challenging budget years in our state’s history. There are signs that the economy is turning around, but not fast enough to cover all of our

budget needs. Unlike the federal government, Florida is constitutionally required to pass a balanced budget. My colleagues and I have made the responsible decision not to overburden families so we will not raise your taxes this year.

To cover shortfalls, Florida will have to make tough decisions to ensure that we are on sound financial footing for years to come.

The Senate is in the process of reviewing ways to protect critical services for Floridians while meeting the constitutional requirement to maintain a balanced state budget.
