Guest guest
now I take 15 units of insulin which is novalog twice a day. it is the 70 30 mix. which Pat explained to me what this means. I take a shot for breakfast and again for dinner. now my q is, if I was going out of town and was making the decision to make lunch a bigger meal and go very light for dinner, could I take the dinner shot at lunch instead since I would be having more carbs? I'm thinking it may depend on how long between breakfast and lunch. mostly at home my lunch is very light because I take no shot to cover it. breakfast and dinner are both covered, so I do eat a bit more in total carbs for these meals. this is probably a q I need to ask my diabetes specialist when I see him again in about a month, but going out of town to morrow and going to get home later then normal. was hoping I could turn dinner and lunch around and it will work out so much better. how lucky you boy's and girl's will be to morrow. the rambling pig will be out of pocket and you can all take a break. Dave has a pile of good advice and information to still tell me, so I can't make him to mad. he might kick me off the list and make me cry! Guest guest
Hmmm. As you say, Mark, you might want to check in with your doc concerning scenarios like this. Here's my thinking: Since your Flex Pen contains a long acting insulin, along with the fast acting, if you were to take it at a different time, you might get out of whack for a day or 2. Fast acting insulin, such as Humalog, which is what we t1's take with each meal, is much more flexible, and if you had Humalog (fast acting) insulin handy, you'd have no trouble with the abnormal meal. I'd say you can take a small dose of your 70/30 at lunch so you can get some of the fast acting to help with the additional carbs you expect to eat for lunch, but then you'll also be getting more of the long acting. Perhaps take some at lunch, try not to go crazy, and then take the balance (dividing your 15 units) at dinner. Guest guest
You should call your doc and ask him about this problem. If you take insulin at noon, and it should be about half of what you would take at dinner,, then you might be off kilter for a couple of days. Your doc needs to prescribe you and insulin pen with just the rapid acting insulin in it for occasions like this. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2012 7:39 AM To: blind diabetics Subject: another flex pen q please. now I take 15 units of insulin which is novalog twice a day. it is the 70 30 mix. which Pat explained to me what this means.
