I got an unsolicited sales call today from some outfit in New Jersey. They

told me that, if I had diabetes, and I have Medicare, they could get me a

talking blood glucose meter at no charge to me, called the Embrace. He said

that this unit allows you to take blood samples from your arms, legs or stomach,

and the unit will then speak the results to you.

Is anyone familiar with this unit?

Hello, ,

The Embrace is not a completely accessible talking meter, as the Solo

V2 and Prodigy Voice are, though the Embrace will speak the result of a

test. Almost all current meters allow for pricking sites other than the

fingers, owing to the small blood sample required. Our problem as blind

people is that the fewer nerves on these alternate test sites means

that we are not likely to connect the test strip with the bead of

blood. I don't know any blind person who has had success with this,

though I'm sure they have all tried it, just as I have.

I'll echo Dorothea's words, with nothing to add.

I was getting my supplies from one company which sold my account to US

Healthcare Services in New Jersey. I thought they just had the Embrace but when

I got the call that they would soon be sending my first supplies I talked to

someone. I found out they have the Solo V2 wihch is the one I ordered from them.

Their web site does not list the Solo V2 so I was surprised when they told me it

was available.

Hi,

I can add a small bit concerning the Embrace meter.

Crystal received one from her supplies provider. Interestingly the Embrace

*does* talk one through the set up process and it does speak the test result

– once – but that’s about it. No speech for the history or anything else so

far as we can determine.
