Guest guest
been looking at all the low carb ice cream they got out now. like weight watchers has some different things that they say is low carb. I think the fudge ceakel had maybe ten carbs. mainly I'm talking about the ice cream on a stick or maybe in a tiny little cup that makes you wish to laugh at the size. I realize that the real thing is much better in taste, but there is many more carbs to deal with as well. thinking maybe a few of you have checked out what weight watchers has or got some ideas for me to try. the wife buys blue bell for home and she eats it by her self of course. I do dip it up for her and only lick the spoon off is all. just a tiny taste of what I'm missing out on and that in it self is bad enough. I use to in the over eating days of my life, I could tare a container of ice cream up! no need for a silly bowl! just get me a big spoon and tie on the feed bag. use to think at one time very many years ago that I could buy a package of those tiny little cups of ice cream and only have one a day for a treat. well when you are loving to eat as I have all my life, this is simply telling your self a lie in the hope that you will believe your lying self. best I recall the package had 16 or maybe 20 tiny little cups. looked like each serving was maybe half of a cup. 4 tiny ounces is all. just one bite for me mostly. couldn't do it. I ate half the cups one day and finished the rest the next day. no self control of any kind back then. I know now I have got my head out of my pig butt and I can as well now eat right and not be stupid about it. was thinking about making my own type of ice cream using yogurt, fresh strawberries, walnuts and splinda. figured to freeze it, but a buddy of mine said it didn't freeze worth a flip and didn't taste right after it was frozen. when I was the bad pig who over ate and didn't care, I would always order the large or giant shakes. always super size it please and then super size it again thank you! don't bother me though with the blue bell ice cream in the freezer every week now like it use to would have killed me to ignore it. now I know all those carbs are poison to my health. I can't have the kind of A1C I desire or weigh less if I give in to such things. some times when part of my old man parts begins to think on the ice cream I will go take it out of the freezer and yell at it. well yelling at it just shows how messed up I really am, but it does settle the madness down in side me that wants out to eat the box of ice cream. tried that low carb ice cream that some places around here has and it kind of taste like saw dust and I should know how saw dust taste. I have worked with wood at home and for a job for more then thirty years, so I know first hand what saw dust taste like and that low carb ice cream reminded me of it. never have looked at the label to see how many carbs are in a serving of real ice cream, but I know a serving is mostly half of a cup. now I don't know about all of you, but a half of one cup? do you actually realize how small a half of cup of ice cream is? what a joke! I can put a half of a cup in my pig mouth all at one time and still have room for chocolate cake. actually if you was to melt a half of a cup of ice cream in the microwave, it won't no longer look like a half of a cup, so I'm thinking you could start with a whole cup and then drink a half cup after you melted it? I simply got ice cream on my brain to night and have no reason why it should be so. I guess maybe because I use to always go get a triple dip on Friday's after work to bring in the weekend right! Guest guest
I love fruit bars. I eat half a one, which has 9 carbs. The sugar free popsicles have only 4 carbs and are good also. I, unfortunately, discovered that Nestlé’s now makes mini size Nutty buddies. They are cute little cones with a mix of vanilla and chocolate ice cream in them and covered with a little chocolate and nuts. They have 16 carbs, 1 protein and 7 grams fat. I eat one when I have a really low calories dinner Last night I had a piece of roasted chicken, some cooked fresh carrots and some cucumber slice. My Bg before dinner was 96, 2 hours after dinner was 102 and I ate one of the mini Nutty Buddy and 2 hours later the sugar was 136. It was 106 when I got up and I took no extra insulin besides when the pump gives me normally. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, May 18, 2012 4:40 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: been just looking and need some good advice. been looking at all the low carb ice cream they got out now. like weight watchers has some different things that they say is low carb. Guest guest
Hi, There are several ice cream treats with very low carb counts. We have been getting fudgecicles which have 13 for a carb count. There was also a chocolate covered ice cream bar very similar to (I think) an Eskimo pie with a carb count of 15. We have also been getting a very small cup of ice cream about the size of a yogurt with 13 or so carbs. I like the portion control as id does eliminate that “little extra serving” which tends to kill us all when it is something we like. Guest guest
Markie, Since you live in OKC I would suggest you check out Braums. They have some wonderful very low carb ice cream. At one time they had one particular flavor which was something like 4 carbs per serving and it was delicious. I am talking about ice cream, not sorbet or sherbet. Guest guest
Perfect example, Pat, perhaps especially for us type 1's, of how we can " cheat " and still be in complete control. This has been my philosophy for a long time. And as many of us have been saying and hearing, moderation is a good word. Enjoy a treat, but go about it with a little forethought. As Pat did. She had a very healthy meal, low in carbs, and ate a very small dessert treat, which if you noticed, was not sugar free or low carb. Guest guest
Hello, Mark, My reply is very much delayed, but you might enjoy making your own ice cream. When I couldn't find sugarless ice cream here in the stores, I bought a home ice cream maker. Only your imagination limits the flavors--cinnamon, blow-you-away chocolate, strawberry, chocolate-orange, almond, you name it. You should be able to get the machine on sale now that summer is starting. Dotty
Guest guest
I'm pretty certain you aren't talking about the old crank freezers we use to sit on and crank to freeze the ice cream? had to use rock salt to make it freeze? I do recall my uncle was to lazy to turn the crank, so he had to get him a electric ice cream freezer. it didn't make ice cream as good as the one we had to crank and all the kinfolks agreed. I suppose you are talking about one that goes up in the freezer was you mix up the recipe in it? I've heard of them, but never seen one or had one. fill me in on what it is and what does it look like? Re: been just looking and need some good advice. Guest guest
The kids here at the complex almost have fights to see who get's to sit on the top while I crank. > I seen a wooden hand crank freezer not long ago and the price tag was $179. my old one works fine and certainly didn't cost that much! Guest guest
Yes, Mark, I'm talking about the ice cream maker that goes up in the freezer. Mine is electric, so there is no need for rock salt and ice. Dotty
