Guest guest
which is better? to eat less food high in carbs or lots more food higher in carbs? for example, for breakfast I had 2 scrambled eggs, 8 ounces of milk and one slice of dry whole grain bread that has 7 grams of fiber. so looks like my carb count for breakfast was close to 30 in the 3 items. I may have had more food with the same 30 carbs, but maybe more calories. most of the time I eat 30 grams of carbs for breakfast and no more then 20 each at lunch and dinner. this has been working well for me. took off the 25 pounds and been controlling the sugar keeping it less then 120 97% of the last 3 months. so need to know what your opinion is on more food with less carbs or less food with more carbs? I use to think that the more you ate at any meal, then you would be full longer, but this is so untrue. now that I know first hand about eating the right types of food I actually now feel fuller longer and I don't get hungry between meals. nor do I crave junk or high carb foods as I use to. I never would have thought this could happen and I never gave it a chance to prove me wrong until the past 3 months. actually my biggest meal is breakfast, then lunch and my dinner is always the smallest meal of my day. I know DR. Burnsting says 6, 12, and 12, but I would switch out the breakfast and dinner my self. the 12, 12, and 6 may not work as well, but I would give it a shot first and just find out for my self. I really am interested in hearing what way of eating and watching or carb in take has worked best for all of you. we do learn from one another and do support each other in times of need. this is what makes us a close family! Guest guest
Which came first, Mark.... Really hard to say--about more carbs less often, or the flip-flop of this. Actually, in your case, where you're trying to lose weight, your objective is to take in less, so I'd be thinking about lowering the insulin, and perhaps the oral meds also, so you would be able to take in fewer carbohydrates. Have I ever talked about a book I'll never write? Called the POW diet? Not prisoner of war, but Prisoner Of Weight? Or, Power Over Weight? It would be a very short book. One page to be specific. And, actually, it wouldn't be a book most of us could read. Someone would need to describe the one and only page. Although, there would be some text. But the page would be mainly focused on a group picture, a black and white photo of prisoners of war, not unlike prisoners in a Nazi POW camp. The point of the book would be, no food, or little food, and guess what? You get skinny. Hoping this isn't seen as me making light of a serious topic. But then, this is why I said it's a book I'll never write. To stress the main point, getting back to your dilemma, Mark, I would think your best and most logical tactic would be to take in less. And if you're trying to keep up with the insulin and/or oral meds, having to eat more, it's going to be harder for you to lose the weight. As it would be for any of us. Guest guest
I have heard all my life if you don't eat enough calories in a day, your body will convince it self that you are trying to starve it. so then you can't lose weight because your body is in the survival mode. Now I think if you throw in a pile of exercise during the same time you cut the calories, then your body can think and act how it feels, but the bottom line is the pounds still will come off. you may not be able to out exercise food if there is lots of it, but I think the exercise can out do the amount of food if it is cut way down like you are saying. when I tell folks I'm on 1000 calories a day and no more then 60 carbs, they think I will starve to death before I live to see pounds come off. lots of folks have simply been brain washed in to only thinking one way works. I'm faxing in my numbers to the saw bones to morrow and will show him how the 30 units of insulin is to much along with the 2000 mg of met Forman as well. then throw in 90 minutes on my bike and it is forcing me to eat more carbs to get the sugar back up. it is kind of like playing both ends to the middle and getting no where but mad! What is your thinking on the matter? which is better? to eat less food high in carbs or lots more food higher in carbs? for example, for breakfast I had 2 scrambled eggs, 8 ounces of milk and one slice of dry whole grain bread that has 7 grams of fiber. so looks like my carb count for breakfast was close to 30 in the 3 items. Guest guest
The heretofore named " POW " diet is definitely not one I'd recommend. As you say, Mark, I think you're right about the body going into survival mode. No doubt, many POW's died, not from starvation, but more directly from their bodies attacking internal organs to find sustenance. Guest guest
That sounds like a perfect breakfast for you. There is a good amount of protein, some fat (which helps make you feel full) and an okay amount of carbs. If this type of regime is working for you, then keep it up! _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2012 6:15 AM To: blind diabetics Subject: What is your thinking on the matter? which is better? to eat less food high in carbs or lots more food higher in carbs? for example, for breakfast I had 2 scrambled eggs, 8 ounces of milk and one slice of dry whole grain bread that has 7 grams of fiber. so looks like my carb count for breakfast was close to 30 in the 3 items.
