Guest guest
, As usual, I am very behind in reading email so I apologize for the late response. You may remember that Suzanne was on homebound instruction most of last year and is on it again this year. If you need any help with the school let me know. It’s not quite as cut and dry since you are not going to a public school and that may be something you need to think about in the future. The private religious based schools are not bound to the federal laws regarding a free and appropriate education (FAPE) in the same way that the public schools are. Before Suzanne needed homebound instruction I had a “504 plan” put into place; this is similar to an IEP and is used for kids with medical problems that do not necessarily adversely affect their learning (it’s really all legal semantics). If you ever need help with this, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hi , When my son was school age, (he became ill at age 14 with what was first diagnosed as crohns, then this diagnosis was changed to UC), he was too sick to go to school, and spent a lot of time in Texas Children's Hospital. We were able to get together with the school's ARDS (Admission, Review and Dismissal) comittee and they came up with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) for homebound instruction. Noah should be able to do his work from home when he is able and to go to school when he feels well enough. The school system MUST accomodate Noah's needs according to the Federal Disability Act. Guest guest
Thanks . We are SO lucky that they really are great about giving us whatever we need. (SO FAR) In the future I very well may have to pull him and move him home. He is on the list to be home this second semester with the PA Cyber School…but I don’t know that he will allow that. He is still so social and really enjoys his friends. I really can’t take that from him. So plug and chug we’ll go to work with them to keep him on the honor roll…how amazing is that?! Next year gets tougher though… Hugs, Mom of Zoe (13) super soccer player; Noah (9) UC, PSC, enthesopathy and osteopenia and a great soccer and basketball player and; Aidan (5) moderately-severely hearing impaired great basketball shot (10-foot hoop none-the-less)
