Guest guest
Remember, 15 grams of carbohydrate is roughly equivalent to a slice of bread. So, a regular gram cracker, based on Vicky's info, is something less than a slice of bread. But 2 crackers would be about 22 grams of carbohydrate, or roughly a slice and half of bread. And even with 2 crackers, the fiber is only 2 grams (1 per cracker). Remember, the suggested minimum for bread products is 3 grams of fiber per serving. And I would guess a serving of gram crackers is not 3 crackers, which would be 33 grams of carbohydrate. Well, I suppose it could be. Guest guest
Well, I guess I better scratch graham crackers off my list. At least as a breakfast food. Re: graham crackers, anyone? Guest guest
Don, it's not that you have to eliminate them completely, but you may want to limit them. IF you normally eat x number of grams of carbohydrate with breakfast, you can certainly eat a gram cracker, or crackers, totaling the same amount of carbohydrates. The thing is, you should want to maximize your nutritional value with every food item you eat as a diabetic. Non-nutritional foods should be the exception, not the rule. For instance, instead of gram crackers for breakfast, which if I remember correctly from a message the other day have only 1 gram of fiber, you ate high fiber bread made with whole grain, you're doing your diabetes a favor.
