Has anyone else discovered that their Rx plan changed for 2007? I

have Caremark, and was told today while refilling several that my

insurance denied my Urso. My Hep office called to tell me they told

her they would only cover 2 Urso Forte pills per day (1000mg). I was

previously taking 6 250mg per day, and when my dosage was changed to

2500, my Hep wrote the Rx for the Forte so I would only have to take 5

pills instead of 10. It seems that my old dose would not even be

completely covered. My Hep is writing a letter to try and justify it,

and appeal the denial, but his office didn't sound confident. She said

if unsuccessful, my Doc would work on something else. Anyone else

finding 2007 coverage changes? It's ironic my insurance premiums went

up, but the coverage went down.

Co-pays went up $3, to $18 ($45/3 months if through mail order). We have

4-5 plans we can choose from. I know my expenses are going to exceed $XX,

so I choose the plan that fits best (and has the highest lifetime maximum!).

I had some problems with CareMark, and so did my company. They have changed

to Aetna for Rx. Your Drs. may be successful in an appeal, though.

Turns out there is a newly approved generic brand of Urso (which I am

now on), so my insurance company would only cover that one.

Hey a, (Is that not a song?) Thanks for the information. What is

the name of the generic? I had not heard of that before you mentioned

it. We're usually late getting new drugs approved down here.

Ursodiol (the " sort of " generic, not really new) is definitely cheaper for my

plan. If I go to a named brand (like Urso-250 - yes, it's slightly different),

I pay more.

Hi Stuart,

My old RX read Urso DS (500 MG)

Ursodiol (500 MG).

The new one: PMS - URSODIOL C 500 MG

URSODIOL CF URSO 50 MG.

It isn't a huge change. The first rx was about $225 per month for 2000 MG per day. The new one is about $207 per month for 2000 MG per day. I switched last month and have not had any problems with the 'new' one.

Hope this helps,

  • 4 weeks later...

I am in Canada, so or course our plans are a little bit different. I take 1000 mg of Urso each day. I went last week to refill my prescription and instead of the $25 they usually charge, it was going to be $260!!! Not acceptable. Turns out there is a newly approved generic brand of Urso (which I am now on), so my insurance company would only cover that one. The pharmacy had to order the new stuff, but had it in a day. Could this be the problem?
