Guest guest
hi everyone now i am in the phase of getting my varices banded every couple of weeks. last time i was in so much pain afterwards and something odd happened. when i try to eat it feels like i am choking. i can only eat liquids and soft foods or anything else chewed to a pulp. i cannot eat bread or potatoes at all. i have never had this problem before. has anyone had it and what did they do for it. i have heard that you can get your esophagus stretched out. is that true? i will be going in for egd this week and wanted some info to take with me. thanks, pam in ca. Guest guest
Pam, there is a throat concoction that can help with the pain from the banding, particularly after the bands sluff off, abut a week later. Its normally used for throat cancer. It has 3 different ingredients in it and it really helped my partner with her repeated bandings. On the bottle is says SOD POLY SUL15/60/Sus (Roxa). She took up to 60ml at a time. Talk if over with your doctor. GoodLuck Kate in Seattle
Guest guest
I've had this happen to me when I've gotten my varices banded, so I know exactly what you're talking about. It usually resolves gradually, but if you're getting banded every couple of weeks then it probably won't have enough time to completely resolve. Mine actually got better after the subsequent EGD (without banding), but then I started have acid reflux. I think they probably tried stretching my esophagus some which helped with the choking, but made the acid reflux worse. I'm not sure if that helps, but I do know what it's like! Talk to your doctor about options... athan
Guest guest
My son was banded every 2 weeks for a while and they neglected to tell us there would be post procedure pain and some diff swallowing til we called to ask about it. It usually only lasted a few days.
