,

Eating any kind of raw fish could possibly be a problem, but I have eaten

all kinds of raw fish here is CA and never had had any problem. If you are

sure the place will have " clean " oysters, there should not be any problem.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to eat a raw oyster. I would gag if I

tried.

Oh come on Don, eating a raw oyster would rank right up there with eating a

raw egg. (LOLLOLLOLLOL)

Well Gator Bait, anyone who lives with them gators could probably eat

anything. (LOLLOLLOL)

Now, I do enjoy oysters steamed and seasoned but I really don't think I

would like the raw ones.

When I was in high school I participated in the FFA program and consuming a

raw egg was a requirement to proved that you really did like to work with

chickens. (yuk)

about twenty years ago I ate a raw oyster by mistake. actually they got my

order mixed up and I didn't know for sure what dinner they had brought me, but I

don't like to complain, so I ate the meal. I dig sea food anyway so I gave it a

try. liked everything but that nasty raw oyster! I actually chewed it up and was

told later I wasn't suppose to chew it, but just swallow it whole. I got no clue

if this was true or not, but never again do I wish to eat a raw oyster. now

maybe I would like it cooked? can't say I would dig a raw egg either. know a few

weight lifters who say before they lift they will drink a dozen raw eggs with

hot sauce mixed in. I guess for the protein boost? you know? a long time ago the

Indians would eat the fresh raw liver out of every buffalo they killed. even

heard cowboy's would do the same thing with dear and the such. the Indians

thought it brought honor to the buffalo to eat his raw bloody liver right after

they had shot him. it was a big treat for them! think I may pass on this as

well. sure hate to knock things until I at least tried, but can't get pass the

thought to try. I do have a buddy that digs eating raw hamburger meat on bread

like a sandwich. I have never tried raw hamburger meat my self, but know a few

guys that all say it is good if you add some catch up on it. now I do dig

chicken liver and the gizzard. use to be all you could eat at a local restaurant

of chicken liver and gizzards and I could tare those puppies up! I also know

some folks who when they buy a steak won't wash it off before throwing it on the

grill. they clame the blood on it makes it taste better and the fire kills all

germs that was on it. Now let me tell you a kind of sick story. when I was very

young and should have had better sense, a car load of us went to the lake to

spend a week and we was going to live off the land like they use to do hundreds

of years ago when they had no choice. well we had some chicken liver we were

going to use to catch some fish for dinner that one night. it had been laying

open on the bank for a few hours in the sun. the one guy who was using it for

fish bate wasn't having any luck. me and another fellow hadn't had nothing to

eat all day and the longer we stared at that liver the better it looked. well

sooner then later we washed it off in the lake and fried it up in a skillet on

the fire with some salt and pepper. we didn't have anything with us to eat, but

we had those things like salt, pepper, garlic and of course the fishman had

purchased the chicken liver for bate before we got to the lake. he came back

carrying a big catfish right after we had ate all his bate. he ask us what we

had just fried up and we had to come clean with him. he got so mad at us for

eating the only bate that he had, so he pitched the catfish back in the lake! it

looked like it would have weighed every bit of 5 pounds and that sucker threw it

back in the lake! he just couldn't understand why we couldn't wait until he

caught a fish for dinner and he had plans to use the liver for a few days to

catch more fish so he figured. so we had to dig for worms with our hands and a

stick. we wasn't real smart back then and had nothing to dig up worms or a sain

to catch small fish bate with. sure was a good thing we got smarter the next day

and went to my cousins house where real food was served. we didn't even have a

car. we could all see, but none of us seen well enough to drive. we were dropped

off and the guy said he would return in a week to pick us back up. well we

figured out the next day we was going to be very hungry by the time he returned,

so we started walking up the country road hoping some one would feel sorry for 3

stupid blind guys and of course some one did. they took us to my cousins house

about 15 miles away and we never got the need to ever try that again. of course

I will admit that liver even though it had set in the son for a few hours, with

bugs crawling all over it, well it still tasted really good when you hadn't ate

for 24 hours! it didn't kill me either and that was about 35 years back.

My grandfather, who was from Denmark, taught me to eat a " cannibal " sandwich

when I was a kid. It consisted of pumpernickel bread, raw hamburger, salt

and pepper and a slice of Bermuda onion. Still love it to this day, but

rarely eat it.

If you are going to eat raw hamburger, it is best if you get a sirloin or a type

of steak with some fat on it and grind it yourself. Grocery store hamburger is

made of trimmings of multiple cows, and can actually make you sick if you eat it

raw.

My wife's grandmother has an old cast iron meat grinder that she hopes will be

willed to her. There is a norwegian dish called Koomla, which is basically a

potato dumpling that is cooked with ham. They are very filling, and not

diabetic friendly, but once in a while I can have them. But i would love to

grind my own ground beef or turkey, or chicken or pork.

That way, you can moderate the aount of fat and the " grain " of the meat.

basically a potato dumpling that is cooked with ham. They are very filling,

and not diabetic friendly, but once in a while I can have them. But i would

love to grind my own ground beef or turkey, or chicken or pork.

That way, you can moderate the aount of fat and the " grain " of the meat.

Re: Is it safe for diabetics to eat raw oysters?

My wife's grandmother has an old cast iron meat grinder that she hopes will

be willed to her. There is a norwegian dish called Koomla, which is

basically a potato dumpling that is cooked with ham. They are very filling,

and not diabetic friendly, but once in a while I can have them. But i would

love to grind my own ground beef or turkey, or chicken or pork.

Pat,

That grinding process will go much smoother if you will cut the meat into

strips and put it in the freezer until it is almost frozen.

Meat which is near room temperature tends to want to clog the grinder.

My dear son just bought me a meat grinder to go on my mixer. It is great

to grind up my own hamberger and make sausages. Much better tasting too!

If you are going to eat raw hamburger, it is best if you get a sirloin or a

type of steak with some fat on it and grind it yourself. Grocery store

hamburger is made of trimmings of multiple cows, and can actually make you

sick if you eat it raw.
