Guest guest
So my brother started with a fluctuating fever last night. It started about 5pm, mild, 99, then dropped to 97 (why he has decided in the last 6 months to start with low body temps is beyond me), then jumped to 99, then back down to 98, then jumped to 100.5, then back down to normal, then back up. So, since he got sick a couple weeks ago, that really scared him, so thinking about what his doctor said regarding fevers and him, we headed to the ER at 11:30pm last night....we were there until 6:30 this morning, and let me tell you the nurses were something less than pleasant, the doctor didn't have a clue, and they just kept repeating " it's only a mild fever " , and asking " What exactly is PSC " -you know that always gives you the warm fuzzies when you have to explain to medical personal what an illness is.... Well, they ended up admitted at 6:30 this morning. His lab's are coming back " normal for him " , bili is only at 12....other than urine being a nice " ice tea " color which he says is typical for him anyway....so I don't know if they can't figure out why the fever comes and goes, literally it can be there an hour later, gone, then 15 mins back again.... So, there is the saga for today.....we have informed everyone that he HAS to be released by Thursday as we have our consult with the Transplant Center on Friday morning.....Any clues as to what the fluctuating fever from haties is????? Brother, , 30, UC & PSC(and oh yeah, I changed my email address and will be migrating everything over to the gmail account, tiffany.crumbliss@... many issues with yahoo mail for me to want to deal with right now)
Guest guest
Dear ,I would hazard a guess that his fever might be from transient blockages.I know for instance , post surgery if the lungs get a blocked air passage the patient runs a fever until it is cleared.Could it be that the bile is backing up, causing a fever and then moving through again letting the fever come down? This is just a guess. When all is said and done, it is just another sign that he needs to be seen by the transplant team.Best of luckLeeSo my brother started with a fluctuating fever last night. This sounds exactly like what for me is a classic bacterial cholangitis attack. If they haven't given him antibiotics yet, I'd be willing to bet that's what he needs. I lived with this kind of episode for about six months before finally getting wise and talking to my Hepatologist about it. He immediately gave me Cipro which cleared it up quickly and kept me feeling better for the next 6-8 months. I had assumed that since the fever never got very high it wasn't a blockage but I was wrong. athan
Guest guest
They have him on IV antibiotics. They are keeping overnight again. We spoke to the on call doctor- they are going to do everything they can to get him " healthy " enough for discharge tomorrow so we can make the consult on Friday morning. We have even offered to bring him right back to the hospital Friday evening..... Something new did start, tenderness in his right quadrant-doc wasn't real thrilled with that. But no signs of ascites... So we shall see, I will be back up at the hospital in the morning........ -
