Guest guest
I am reading all your posts about Prednisone and the last week or so as my good eye (right one) is getting more cloudy, I attribute it to 11 months of 30 and 20mg of prednisone. Never mind the other side effects, but I know darn well that I never had any eye problems in my whole life until Easter Sunday, remember??????? 2008. This morning Earl and I were talking about it and the prednisone has not only added 50 lbs to my body, but the quality of my life has turned upside down as far as going outside. Maybe I could just turn up the oxygen level and get off the Prednisone. Any suggestions, Bruce, Beth, Mamasher,Peggy, Diane??????? I HAVE MY EYE APPOINTMENT THIS COMING TUES. 9AM WITH DR. WHO DID DETACHED RETINAL SURGERY. EARL SAID TO SEE WHAT HE SAYS. HE DOESN'T THINK HE WILL DO THE CATARACT SURG. ON THE GOOD EYE YET. WHAT SAY YOU? I LOVE YOU THIS DAY!! Guest guest
Lou: I think every decision we make is such a personal one that no two people would make the same choice. Personally, I already feel better off the prednisone. It is very important to me that I feel as well as I can each day and to try and remove anything that may hamper that. It is also my intent to get rid of any excess medications that I take. For example, Lipitor. It is highly unlikely that my cholestrol will kill me so why take another drug. At this point in my life, it is all about me and doing things that I enjoy. I spend lots of time with my family, reading, playing computer games, baking, visiting friends and anything else that I feel like doing. I found it was impossible to enjoy these things while taking prednisone. Have a great day! Guest guest
Lou, I will take a dose pack of Prednisone if I have been sick. I have only had one dose pack this year. In the past years, I was on large doses for long periods of time. But no more for me! Now whenever I take a dose pack (to get over an illness) I have reduced vision in my eyes. When I have finished the dose pack, my vision returns. I hope you will talk to your doctor about weaning off of the prednisone. Your eye doctor will also tell you that being on oxygen will also affect your eyes. But I have been on oxygen continously for 4 years and my eyes are o.k. as long as I am not taking any prednisone. In conclusion, my opinion is that prednisone should only be used if one is ill, with a virus, a cold, pneumonia, or something that is hard to get over. Exercise also helps tremendously! I have much more stamina now. I don't like to appear as if I am out of breath. Love & Toodles to you, Lou! Guest guest
Lou, I too gained weight on prednisone. I saw a pulm doc for about 6 months in 2007 who only prescribed more & more prednisone. I complained of SOB & coughing and gained 70 lbs while taking prednisone. Two Drs. are helping to wean off of prednisone. I'm also taking cytoxan, so the PH specialist is lowering the dosage of prednisone. I also no longer eat wheat (ok....maybe I cheat occasionally), which is known to be an inflammatory food. Long story short. I was taking 40 mgs. now I take 10 mg and wean 1 mg per month. I've also lost about 50lbs. It's frustrating to gain weight & not be able to breath. Talk to your dr. to see what's best for you. Guest guest
Lou, DO NOT just stop the prednisone. You will suffer terribly. you have to wean yourself down under your Dr's care. Prednisone is a very strong drug and will mess your body up. As far as your eye goes. IF you are comfortable with this Dr. go but if you are leery of using him don't go. I didn't go back to the first Dr... I only give them ONE shot at me. If I am not happy....I'm not going back.  Perdnisone does cause cataracts on some--me-- I just would maybe hear what he has to say butnot have any procedures done. Your a smart lady you'll know what to do.Love ya.Love and Prayers, Peggy   IPF  2004,  Florida"Worry looks around, Sorry looks back,  Faith looks up." Guest guest
Lou None of us can measure any benefit you're getting from the prednisone versus the side effects. That is something you need to have a long talk with your doctor about and ultimately based on discussion, information and his advice, you decide if you want him to start weaning you from the prednisone. Now, if you decide so but then in the weaning process find out that its not best and staying on a small amount is, then be willing to change your mind. I think going from medium or high dosages down to 10 mg is difficult but generally people can do it. However, sometimes going below 10 or below 5 they find very different. This is when they find they may not breathe or feel as well getting completely off. The process must be done gradually and the speed is different for everyone. It's all a very delicate choice and balance. > > I am reading all your posts about Prednisone and the last week or so as > my good eye (right one) is getting more cloudy, I attribute it to 11 > months of 30 and 20mg of prednisone. Guest guest
HI PEGGY: No, I would not stop prednisone unless instructed to do so. I just now had permission to go down to 10, thank goodness, he said to try it for a couple of weeks, see how I feel. I will call him in 2 weeks to see what's next. Thank you for your continuing concern and love, Peggy. xxoxoxoxoxoxo I LOVE YOU THIS DAY MARY LOU - RICHMOND VA IPF - 02 > > I am reading all your posts about Prednisone and the last week or so as > my good eye (right one) is getting more cloudy, I attribute it to 11 > months of 30 and 20mg of prednisone. Guest guest
HI LISA: Thank you for responding to my prednisone dilemma. I totally realize that my pulmo will never want me off all the way with the prednisone, down to maybe (5) if I'm lucky, but at my age (74) he may want me to stay on at least some in case of infection or I might required more oxygen because my breathing gets worse. I certainly don't expect it to get better, just a little better relief. If I can stay on 5mg, that will suffice for me, and the only other ONE thing I am asking for in life is COOLER TEMPERATURES. GOOD GRIEF, IT IS HOT. WHEN WILL IT END?????
