finding a new doctor

So, because of the changes being made to medicdade I am being forced to choose a

new doctor. I haven't had to do this since I became diabetic. Its really bad

timing since we are in the middle of changing medications since my A1C has been

going up currently 7.8. So, I guess I am just wondering how to go about this.

What type of questions I should ask at my first visit and that sort of thing.

Thanks for any help.

Way back in the dark ages I consistently ran an A1C of 5.1 or 5.2, and I also

had a fasting blood sugar of 126 or higher. Today that is considered a sign of

diabetes, then it was considered borderline diabetic. Ask your doctor if he or

she is going to get a history of your food and beveerage consumption?

Back then the doctor only looked at my A1C and my fasting glucose levels. That

was a big medical mistake, since I followed his recommendations which were wrong

since he never looked at my diet and exercise programs.

He always said you are doing fine and keep on doing what you are doing, so I

did. That was a big mistake on the part of the doctor and me.

Remember the two hour post prandial glucose level will tell you if you are

consuming too many carbs or not no matter whether you are on oral drugs or

insulin. If your two hour post prandial glucose level is above 180, then you are

consuming too many carbs, which are converted to glucose at a rate of 100%. So I

followed his advice and continued to consume ice cream, candy, cakes, pies, and

any thing sweet along with lots of beer almost on a daily basis.

In this enlightened era it is very important for your prescribing physician to

know what you are eating and drinking. If not, he is completely ignorant, and in

my opinion stupid. Some people put the upper limit of glucose level at 160, so

it is important for you to know his target goals. An A1C of 7.8 is definitely

not good.

Your duty is to yourself, Harry

Are you talking about a new internist or an endocrinologist?

At any rate, you need to ask how much experience he/she has with your type

of diabetes. It t is an internist, you should probably ask to be referred

to an endo as your BG and A1C has gone up.

Have him/her refer you to an endo. If your A1C is continually going up, you

need advice from an endo not an internist who may have only a small

knowledge of diabetes.

Perhaps your new internist can make a suggestion about an endo.
