Guest guest
Do you know if it is common for PSC patients or liver disease patients have a part of a healthy tooth fall off by itself? I heard this happen to an AIH patient on the Finnish support group and this evening my son came to me after brushing his teeth and showed that the upper part of his tooth (fourth one in the front in the lower jaw) had mysteriously disapperared. Luckily the tooth is not sore! Could this have something to do with the disease or the medication, or do you think it is just a coincidence? Have you heard of similar cases? My son's medications at the moment are urso, azathioprine, budenisode, hydrocortisone and calcium with vitamin D. He did have prednisolon for three years but it was discontinued a couple of months ago. Grateful for any comments, Taru-Mari, mother of Eemeli (who just turned 10 last Monday) PSC 07/2003

I heard this happen >to an AIH patient on the Finnish support group and this evening my son In the later months before my transplant I had three teeth become very loose. Two actually came out on their own, but the third I had the dentist remove as it was a big molar. He told me they all may fall out because of the the disease and the amount of drugs I took. Most of my teeth became loose in their sockets, but now are quite firm. Maybe discuss it with your doc and see what he thinks too. Guest guest
has terrible teeth problems that developed since his liver problems. Before transplant, they encouraged him to get his teeth in good shape to prevent infection after transplant. While he was in SICU they would do mouth care twice a day and the nurse doing it one day, said, " look, part of his tooth is missing. He can have that looked at after he recovers " I think it is in part due to poor dental care as a child and in part due to the malnutrition present as part of liver disease and UC. Guest guest
Thank you all for the comments on the teeth problems. I am aware of the problems with the gums, too, but my son does not have those (at least not yet...). I was mainly looking for others who may have had problems like parts of teeth missing. If you are reading this , has your son had these problems also later on? When part of his tooth was found to be missing, had he had any particular medication and for how long. We have not seen the dentist yet but will on Thursday. It would be interesting to know before that if there are any similarities in our sons' medications. There are of course a number of other possible reasons for a part of the tooth missing than the medication, I was told. For example, there may have been a trauma of some kind earlier, or there may have been a cavity that was not noticed etc. I am still worry if this has something to do with the fact that my son had prednisolone for three years and for half of it without any calcium & vitamin D supplement. He is growing more slowly now (he is 10) than he was used to, too. I really look forward to (and am scared of at the same time)the bone density scan due in a couple of weeks. Is there any medication to stop the parents from worrying??? Taru-Mari > > has terrible teeth problems that developed since his liver > problems.
