Guest guest
Yep, that's right. There is no other way to put it. My doctor had me do a 24 hour urine collection and test, and I did it a lot, but the results still made me mad. He did it because my creatanine blood test came back with a reading of 1.8.0. Then a week later with the urine test it still came back at a reading of 1.8.1. To make matters worse it says I have a kidney sufficiency score of 35%? Whatever that means? So help me out here. Does this mean I am just an old fart with dieing kidneys, or is there something I can do about it? I am scheduled to have a nephrologist consultation in the near future, but any advice or input would be appreciated in the mean time. really pissed, Harry
Guest guest
Harry, I'm surprised to hear you haven't had a 24-hour urine test in conjunction with your creatine test. These have been standard with me for the last 20 years. My creatine clearance is about what yours is, ranging from 1.6 to 1.9 for the last few years. And, yes, it's possible your kidney function is measured in percentage as 35%. Although, I'm no expert with this. A normal creatine clearance has a high limit of 0.8 if I'm not mistaken, so double this would mean half the kidney function. Right? In other words, a creatine clearance of 1.6 would be 50% kidney function. Pat? Any thoughts? Guest guest
First, Harry, all aging people lose kidney function. But if you have lost 35%, then it might be due to the diabetes. Your new doc, the nephrologist will give you more accurate numbers and may suggest some diet changes. Don't feel bad, you are not up for dialysis yet. They don't look at that until you are at 15% or lower. My kidneys are functioning at 0.03%! I do dialysis 3 times a week for the last 2 years. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Harry Bates Sent: Friday, August 31, 2012 7:34 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: just plain pissed Yep, that's right.
