Hi All,

Recently I acquired a new meter. It is the Advocate Ready Code and seems to

be very accessible. It doesn't have an earphone jack which would've been

nice but the nurse set it up for me and everything spoke in the set up

process. She did it as I couldn't read the instructions but am told there

is an on-line version (hopefully not just pictures). I haven't checked this

out as of yet.

I haven't downloaded the software yet so don't know if that is accessible or

not.

I will keep you posted.

Hello, Vivian,

Thanks for the information about the Advocate Readi-Code. It is an

older meter but quite widely available at very reasonable prices, so it

may be a good choice for people who pay for their diabetic expenses out

of pocket. I believe that an earphone is only necessary around people

who don't know how to mind their own business or if you test in a very

noisy environment. It is certainly the feature I am most willing to do

without. Do let us know how it handles insufficient blood on the test

strip, whether it reports it as a low reading or as an error. I really

have come to suspect that most of these talking meters are made in the

same factory in Taiwan. If the meter speaks all functions, you may well

discover that the manual is of little use, as it relates to pictures.

Try the training video on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC9i_IZRw5w. The instructor would have

done better not to talk over the sounds of the meter, but they are

still audible.

Hello, Vivian and Betty,

I haven't found the software yet, but the manuals for both the Prodigy

Voice Meter, the Prodigy Autocode and the Advocate Readi-Code can be

downloaded from:

http://www.blinddiabetic.com/talking-meters/.

Don't confuse the Prodigy Autocode with the Prodigy Voice or the

Advocate Readi-Code. The Prodigy Autocode is an older model of Prodigy

meter, not quite accessible.

Actuallly the rep told me that this particular meter had only been out 2

weeks when I ordered it back in July. There was another Advocate Ready Code

Meter before this I believe. There might be some other model number or

something that I'm not aware of but will try to find out.

I do have the URL of the page where I can download the software.

Dotty,

Thanks for this link. I did find an Advocate manual online but it was for

an older version and not this new one.

The nurse should have let you go through the setup as she monitored you.

Have you experimented with the settings? What audible feedback does the

meter provide? Where did you get the meter?

As far as I know, you need not worry about software with any of the talking

meters. It will do you and me no good. Unless someone's finally managed to

make it work and accessible.

Hi Vivian.

Do keep us posted on this new Advocate meter. I'm especially interested in

how it handles insufficient blood situations. I'd love to read the manual

for this meter as well if you ever find it online. Thanks.

Best,

Rick
