Congratulations Becky.

Which meter are you using?

Just curious, because mine is so easy to use.

Okay, I'm not familiar with that one.

I have only been testing with my meter since Saturday, September 1st, and I am

having no trouble with it. The blood just kind of jumps onto the meter, almost

as if it were a magnet. If anyone would have told me it was this easy to test,

I never would have believed them. I am testing somewhere between 4 to 6 times a

day and really love to see what different foods do to the levels.

ordered a meter like mine. He should be getting his within the next day

or so. He is totally blind and had no trouble using my meter when he tested

with it so see how he liked it.

Well, good luck with that Becky.

Hi Becky,

What are you having trouble with? The main problem I have is not sticking my

finger enough and then it doesn't bleed enough so I don't get enough blood on

the strip, even though my strips take very little blood. I am not really even

having much trouble with that any more. It usually happens when I am in a

hurry, and don't take the time to be sure there is enough blood before I put the

strip up to my finger.

Take care,

Lynn

That is what I'm having trouble with is getting the blood to hit the strip.

Maybe the finger doesn't bleed like it should.

You'll always have times when the blood refuses to get onto the strip. I've

been checking with a talking meter for many years, and while it's second

nature for me, there are still those times I have to prick, and re-prick my

finger. I don't mind doing this however, because I really, really want, and

need, to know where my blood sugars are. It's right up there with oxygen!

Great words for many who struggle with testing, Lynn. You may have

acclimated a bit easier then some, but really, it's not all that difficult.

I liked your comment about wanting to see which foods do what. This is the

primary reason we test.

That's the meter I'm using Becky. Here's what I do: I prick my finger,

usually twice, usually to one side of the finger, or the other. Then, I hold

it over a tissue I've placed on the counter, and begin pumping my finger,

not unlike milking a cow I suppose. Next, I pick up the meter, keeping my

finger hovering above the tissue in case of dripping blood, and then I

locate the tip of the strip with a finger other than the one I just pricked.

This helps me zero in on where the tip of the strip is. Then, I carefully

aim for that same spot, where I'd had the other finger a moment earlier. In

case you missed it, I grasp the meter with the other hand, and take the tip

of the strip to where my blood is. It works for me most of the time.

Sometimes, I have to repeat, but it usually works.

I do my testing the same way except that I glide the end of the strip from

below the point where I stuck myself. I can never find the exact pint, but

gliding the strip from below is more successful.ppt

Hello, Becky,

Make sure to line up your puncture spot with the vertical trough in the

Solo V2 test strip. This strip with the trough we can feel is the best

feature of this meter. But all being said and done, we always have

trouble sometimes. I've been at it for two years and my first try this

morning gave an error due to insufficient blood on the strip. The

second try gave 91 MGDL, so I accepted that and ate breakfast.

Getting a consistent blood sample is one of the hurtles to deal with, both

literally and mentally, Becky. Try to keep the idea in your head that, I

need to get this reading, no matter how long it takes, and no matter how

many times I have to prick my finger. You need to have this kind of

determination to leap over the times when you just can't get blood on the

strip. You will find, by doing this day after day, your determination will

grow, and when you get one of those uncooperative fingers, when it seems

your body ran out of blood since you can't seem to get any on the strip, you

will get it done! Keep hanging in there!

I'll reuse a lancet several times, but if I'm really having trouble, I get a

new one. As long as the meter hasn't registered blood, you can keep the

strip in there.

It's your blood/skin. There really isn't any blood, other than a trace, on

the lancet point. I suppose under a microscope, you'd find blood. I've been

doing this for many years, and have never had a problem.

Actually, I change my lancet every time, but what I'm saying is, I often

prick twice. And when I check in the middle of the night, I don't bother

changing it. Lancets are cheap. If you're uncomfortable reusing them, just

change them. Technically, a new one is fractionally sharper, so if you're

struggling with getting a sample, using a new lancet each time will help

your odds a little.
