Guest guest
I don't want to necessarily say this isn't a better recipe than the real thing, but I'd like to point something out: In lieu of sugar, the dessert is sweetened with the apple juice, which is arguably about the same as sugar. Nonetheless, with a dessert like this, the real problem is the crust. Most pastry based pie crusts are very problematic due to the high concentration of flour and fat. Is there an apple pie dessert using a gram cracker crust and perhaps some artificial sweetener to sweeten the apples? In truth, I'll eat apple pie, a small piece, and not worry about it, allowing for the extra carbs by eliminating some other carbs in the meal. Guest guest
There would be fewer carbs if you used Splenda instead of sugar and apple juice. Also, using filo dough would make many less calories than regular pie dough. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sugar Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2012 4:14 PM To: Born-Again-Diabetics Subject: Apple Pie (No Sugar) Apple Pie (No Sugar) 4 c Apple 1/2 c sugar free Frozen apple juice Concentrate, undiluted 2 ts sugar free Tapioca or cornstarch 1/2 To 1 tsp. cinnamon Mix apples and all ingredients until well coated; pour into pastry shell and top with pastry. Guest guest
Apple Pie (No Sugar) 4 c Apple 1/2 c sugar free Frozen apple juice Concentrate, undiluted 2 ts sugar free Tapioca or cornstarch Plus a crust. All are sources of high carb content. This is not sugar free because the fruit products contain the same sugars found in table sugar. A diabetic can not make an informed decision about this because it lacks a carb count. > Apple Pie (No Sugar) > 4 c Apple > 1/2 c sugar free Frozen apple juice > Concentrate, undiluted > 2 ts sugar free Tapioca or cornstarch > 1/2 To 1 tsp. cinnamon > Mix apples and all ingredients until well coated; pour into pastry > shell and top with pastry. Guest guest
Hi Bill, I was totally tired and not paying attention! Haha. Sorry about that. I just did not go down far enough. Sorry. I will wake up next time. I had computer problems the last three days and found out finally it was the batteries in my wireless keyboard. I am glad it is working again and wish my brain was. LOL.
