Guest guest
Bit of background had been taking Januvia for about 4 years when my a1c started going up with no change to my life style or eating habits. So doc switched me to Metformin. We began a month ago with 250 MG's a day and have slowly worked up to 500 twice a day. So how long can I expect to be running to the bathroom multiple times a day? Also for the past few days I've had severe episodes of nausea 1 was so bad I thought I'd pass out. I s this related? And if so is there anything I can do. Also for the past 3 weeks I have been very very itchy particularly at night when I'm not as easily distracted. I wake up 2 or 3 times a night itching in different places. My hands and wrists feet and ankles, upper arms. The itching during the day rotates too? Could this be some strange side effect. I spoke with my doctor who encouraged me to use my OTC allergy medication and keep her posted. So I've been using that and a cream I bought. In short I feel pretty awful. Any thoughts? Guest guest
I have been taking metformin since I was diagnosed as a type II over five yeqars ago at 850mg twice a day and haven't experienced any of those symptoms. Guest guest
Hello, I can relate quite well to what you said. Yes, these things seem to be side effects of Metformin. One thing that I've found is to take the Metformin in the middle of the meal. The evil stuff seems to need to be wrapped in a good-sized package of food. Guest guest
I've been on 2000 mg of met forman for about 2 years. before that I took 1000 for 8 years. the bathroom issue only lasted maybe one week for me. can't be sure if I had any of the other problems you have had or not. most saw bones really put a lot of faith in met forman and I have read lots of positive reports on the drug. different folks can have different issues with any drug. my advice is to continue taking it and continue to report to your doc as you are about what it is doing to you. in most cases they all go away in time and I never have heard yet of the side effects lasting more then 2 to 4 weeks. your body has to get use to the new drug, but it could be that you are one of those that can't take it. I hope this isn't so for you because I think met forman is one of the best drugs for diabetes. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 1:10 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: metformin questions Bit of background had been taking Januvia for about 4 years when my a1c started going up with no change to my life style or eating habits. Guest guest
mark, I agree, however I just started itching all over my back, but it passes. the Nausia is a common side affect for some, when I get this way I am told to stop taking it for a couple of days, this is due to the anti rejection meds I am on like cellcept or Prograff. but I always come back to it. Other than this, constipation is also one of those things, but not sure if it is the Metformin or iron I am taking, for 14 years now, yikes, but my body has adjusted and all is ok. On the positive side I have lost alot of weight, over 70lbs in two years, along with a careful change of eating good drug, is my opinion 'Real tears are not those that fall from your eyes and cover your face, but that fall from your heart and cover your soul.' ~Blessings be poured upon you- Sugar metformin questions Bit of background had been taking Januvia for about 4 years when my a1c started going up with no change to my life style or eating habits. Guest guest
Becky, in this situation, for me, personally I am good as long as I stay under 150 but I don't like to go over 130. Dr. says I am to hard on myself, that may be true, but with two transplants, I want to keep them for as long as i can, and healthy to. I would ask my Dr. about what number he would like you to be or reach, and again, it depends on how you feel. I feel a bit " high " if I am 150, like numbness, dizzy, etc... so sorry if I can't answer your question. sugar 'Real tears are not those that fall from your eyes and cover your face, but that fall from your heart and cover your soul.' ~Blessings be poured upon you- Sugar metformin questions > > Bit of background had been taking Januvia for about 4 years when my a1c > started going up with no change to my life style or eating habits. Guest guest
Hi Sugar, That's okay. I think like 171 or higher, I'm sleepy. Now I feel good now that I'm trying to get the hang of this. I almost gave up several times, and almost left the list, but after listening to you all I hung in there. Maybe you all can help me on my eating. I do eat when I'm bord and lonely. Maybe if I find Mr. Right or something to occupy me I won't think so much about food. Today I had a baked potato and a piece of cheese. Not too hungry today. It is not fun taking that shot every night. I am determined not to go back on it. This group is a great bunch. Guest guest
Hello Becky, That is a low, beginners dose. Don't be surprised if your doc ups the dose when he finds your A1C is still up too high. But, lets hope it will not be! _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 2:17 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: metformin questions I called the drugstore and they told me I'm on 500 Milligrams of Metformin a day. Guest guest
Unless for some physical reason you cannot do it, going for a walk helps with the boredom. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 2:11 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: metformin questions Hi Sugar, That's okay. Guest guest
According to the ADA 70 is low and 100 high normal, but up to 140 is okay. Now, this for fasting blood sugars or post 2 hours after a meal.- _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 1:33 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: metformin questions I'm glad I don't get the nausea. Took my sugar again. It is 143. Is that bad? What is the normal high and low? Guest guest
Hello , I was diagnosed this past July. I am on 500 mg of Metformin twice a day. I had the cramping and nausea when I started using it. Now that I think about it, I probably had some itching as well. I really did not have to run to the bathroom. If anything, it seems to constipate me. The nausea will probably last a wee or so, but it decreased as time passed. I occasionally may have several minutes of slight nausea when I start to eat, but really not much of a bother any longer. My first A1C was 11.1. My second A1C was 8.6. I am pleased with how things are coming along. I still need to exercise more though. I try to walk more, but that is boring after while too. Take care everyone and I can't begin to tell you all how much I enjoy reading your posts. I absolutely love this list. You guys are the best!!! So doc switched me to Metformin. We began a month ago with 250 MG's a day and have slowly worked up to 500 twice a day. So how long can I expect to be running to the bathroom multiple times a day? Also for the past 3 weeks I have been very very itchy particularly at night when I'm not as easily distracted. I wake up 2 or 3 times a night itching in different places. My hands and wrists feet and ankles, upper arms. The itching during the day rotates too? Could this be some strange side effect. I spoke with my doctor who encouraged me to use my OTC allergy medication and keep her posted. So I've been using that and a cream I bought. In short I feel pretty awful. Any thoughts?
