Guest guest
Hi all... During my daughters last hospitalization, she had a very, very bad diaper rash..literally whelps on her bottom. Cincinnati Children's pharm. sent up what they call " magic butt cream " and it took care of it in less than a week. I'm sure if your pharmacy or physician called they would be more than happy to share the recipe...I know there is an 800 no, but of course I can't find it..lol, the name of the hosp is Children's Hospital Medical Center..the non-800 no is . Just ask for the pharmacy. Hope this helps someone... Manda mommy of Piper 8 mths w/cf
Guest guest
I have a 4 mth old daughter who has lots of diaper rash due to enzzymes, dairrhea, and antibiotics. Someone gave me the recipe for homemade wipes and they have helped alot to keep her butt from getting so red. Here is the recipe: Cut a roll of VIVA White paper towels in half. In a rubbermaid container, mix: 2 cups water 1 Tbls Baby Oil 2 Tbls Baby gel Add paper towels Hope this helps the diaper rash. Guest guest
Another tip for diaper rash (or rather diaper ass, as my first child inadvertanly dubbed it...) If it looks like a burn, with skin peeling off and raw looking, ask for a prescription for silvadene (the creme that they use for burns) Not only does it work but it also keeps infection from setting in. It seems to work well for enzyme butt syndrome. Another option that worked evertime except for the burn type rashes was a combo the pharmacist mixed (the first time, after that we figured out it was much cheaper to mix it at home ourselves) was zinc oxide, eucerine creme (the thick stuff, not the lotion), nystatin, and hydrocortisone creme. Our CF clinic called this Happy butt creme.... Of course, for uncomplicated yeast diaper rash, the most convenient, readily available middle of then night without a doc on call is lotrimin creme (yep, the stuff for feet). apply it under zinc oxide or vaseline to keep it from coming off as fast. there is always aquafor, the expensive med manufactured for diaper rash. truthfully, all of the above worked the best for us, though and the aquafor didn't work that great. If you live in canada, for prevention, try zincofax extra strength. We buy the stuff in cases when we are there in the summer, its muchbetter than the zinc oxide you can buy in the states. there is always bag balm, also, for prevention, if, that is, you can stand the smell. Take care and good luck Jen, mommy of 7 munchkins been there and done that with " diaper ass " lol (3 with CF) > I have a 4 mth old daughter who has lots of diaper rash due to enzzymes, > dairrhea, and antibiotics. Guest guest
I've heard from a friend, but have never tried myself, that putting a layer of Mylanta on the bottom and drying with a hair dryer on low (not too close or you will burn them w/the dryer!) really helps clear up that super ouchy, bright red, welty rash. > > Reply-To: cfparents > Date: Thu, 07 Feb 2002 07:17:39 -0000 > To: cfparents > Subject: Re: diaper rash help > > > > Another tip for diaper rash (or rather diaper ass, as my first child > inadvertanly dubbed it...) > If it looks like a burn, with skin peeling off and raw looking, ask > for a prescription for silvadene (the creme that they use for > burns) Not only does it work but it also keeps infection from > setting in. Guest guest
When they have welts on their bottom, I believe they usually prescribe NYSTATIN ointment. It is a prescription and is not available over the counter. I called in a problem for Emma's hiney a few months back and this is what the CF center prescribed so I think this is what you are refering to. I don't know if it's prescribed only for specific conditions such as maybe having a yeast problem, etc but I have had it prescribed when Emma's been on antibiotics and her hiney is really raw. I don't think zinc oxide is really good to use once welts appear. It's really meant to create a barrier between their hiney and the water/pee and is not necessarily meant for use for healing which I don't believe it can. It's more of a protective approach to use before it gets to the really bad stage with open sores/welts. Hope this helps, - mother of Emma 18 months w/cf and Isabelle wo/cf On Wed, 6 Feb 2002 23:12:26 EST pipersmommy0612@... writes: > Hi all... > > During my daughters last hospitalization, she had a very, very bad > diaper > rash..literally whelps on her bottom. Guest guest
I am usually a lurker, but thought I would throw out my experience. My hospital too has a diaper rash cream like the " magic butt crème " and I had to get it locally as it was the only thing that worked on my daughter's bottom. She has short gut as well so I know of the whelps and bleeding from diapers no matter how many times you change them. Anyway, when I called to get the ingredients you wouldn't believe what's in it. Nystatin powder & cream, zinc oxide, vitamin A&D ointment and dibucaine. So they include something for the yeast or other topical fungus, zinc oxide as a drying agent, vitamin A&D ointment for a barrier and the dibucaine I assume for pain relief. If you can get the Nystatin, you can make a cream yourself with over the counter baby products (leaving off the pain medication - though I personally think it's great) Just my thoughts Mommy to Chalee will be one year old next week, with cf and short gut. She knew what she was talking about she just gave it another name and we still will call it that once in while. Deb A
