Guest guest
I just purchased the Prodigy voice. I checked my sugar 2 hours after I ate this evening, and the result was 119 . Then I compared it to my voicemate ackucheck and the result was 180. I've been using the voicemate for 6 years. I got the prodigy for portability, and the fact that it takes up lots less space in my back pack when I travel. The difference between the two meters is 60. When I check my sugar in the mornings, it's been between 88 and 100. So with the prodigy it will be close to 20, which is dangerously low. I tried a Prodigy 5 years ago, and got the same results, so Iit. I tried another one at that time with the same results. So the questiones are, which one's correct, and do I just continue on using the voice mate? Thanks for your answers,

Guest guest
Hello, , The Prodigy Voice is referenced to whole blood, so you can expect a ten or twelve percent lower reading than with a plasma-referenced meter. Of course, this doesn't explain such a large difference between the readings from the two meters. I would suggest that unless you have changed your Accu-Chek lately, it may be going off the skids. Guest guest
How do you change a meter? I've not messed with the accucheck since I got it 6 years ago. sound as if everyones saying that the Prodigy's reliable. Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Hello, , What I meant was actually replacing the Accu-Chek meter which the Voice Mate uses. If you are still using the same meter, this may be part of the problem. Dotty
Guest guest
Depending on your insurance, you are entitled to a new meter every so many years. If you haven't gotten a new meter in 6 years, you qualify, I'm sure. Your doctor writes your prescription for a certain number of strips, and it doesn't make any difference to them for which meter. Guest guest
I use the Solo V2, and I noticed it measured a few points different than my Prodigy Voice. I'm not concerned about the small difference. If I'm 110 on the Prodigy Voice, and 103 on the Solo, it's close enough for me. You could repeat a check and end up with different numbers, on the same meter. Guest guest
Hello, Becky, The 110 morning target which you were given is the target recommended by the American College of Endochrenologists. The American Diabetes Association recommends a morning ceiling of 125. This may be a good intermediate target for you to aim at. You are far enough above your doctor's target so that I'm concerned that you may become discouraged before you ever get there, so try setting short-term, more feasible goals, why not 150 for the next couple of weeks, then dropping it by units of ten. Now, I know it is not generally done to contradict the doctor, but often they give you the absolute target without thinking about how a person is really supposed to get there. I think it's better not to reach that target at first but to see a gradual decrease than to get discouraged and throw the whole effort out the window. Think of losing weight. The doctor says to lose 50 pounds, but you won't do that by next week. Your readings are coming down, not as quickly as you would like, but they are in the right direction. Those new fall apples are wonderful, so try some of them rather than old, stale, boxed snacks. Dotty
