Guest guest
Dear , I don't even see why they call it major surgery, because it really isn't in my opinion!! My surgery was Jan 10, 2000 and I was was the 4th surgery that day for Dr R, so mine was in the afternoon. I was up that evening walking the halls and doing fine. I think that I could have gone home the 2nd day. It really was not that big a deal. I am 55 years old and have a lot of medical problems, including at the time very high blood pressure/ severe scoliosis/ arrthritis/ fibromyalgia/sleep apnea/acid reflux/ edema/ I was a mess when I got there and walked away less 20 lbs and making progress on all my problems!! I have been doing great ever since. Surg wt was 242 lbs and now 184 lbs and I am 5 ft 1 in tall. I hope my experience gives you encouragement and hope. You are very young and have your whole life ahead of you. It will be wonderful for you to get your weight problem under control before it gets any more out of hand. Blessings to you, in Missouri
Guest guest
Hi there! My name is and I am a 21 yr old with a BMI of 41. I am so tired all the time and am looking for a new way of living. I learned about Dr. R through a friend of mine, Osler. She has absolutely nothing but wonderful things to say since her MGB. I am really nervous about undergoing a procedure such as this. But I think it would help me to hear from people who have been there first hand. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

We can get a bit testy at times, but all in all everyone here is very helpful and supportive. I think you are considering doing a wonderful thing for yourself. Especially at your age. Oh how I wish someone had suggested this to me years ago. But, God's perfect timing was for me to have my surgery next week. I can't wait! Feel free to ask questions! Guest guest
Sharon, Please tell me your story, I have made the decision to change surgeons and go to DR. R. How ever I live inLas Vegas and will be traveling that is the only thing that scares me is that my current DR. is here in town, and if something goes wrong I will be far away. IM sure my Dr. here could take care of it but how will he feel or treat someone else's work..hmmm. Please tell me why you had a leak. what body type are you and your bmi. I heard that makes a difference although I don't know so I am asking. Please help me. You can e-mail me privately metrishal@... Guest guest
Hi Chip My name is Sharon Atiinson. I had my first surgery on1-7-2000. Unfortunately I was one of unlucky ones. I had a Leak and was in the hospital 8 days. It was guit an experience. I will be glad to share it with you if you want to know the not so great part of the surgery. Dot get me wrong I would do it again in a heart beat. I have lost 65lbs and feel better than I have in 20 years, I have even joined a Gym, I cant hardly believe that a few short months ago and 65lbs could make such a change in my life. I couldn't hardly walk without pain in all my joints much less joing a gym. The Lord is Good!!!!!! I dot want to be negative, but I think people need to know about all the possibilities of this surgery. Again I say I would do it again in a heartbeat and Dr. Rutledge is the BEST! Good luck Sharon in N.C. Re: Hoping to talk to someone... Thanks for the welcome. Guest guest
Chip, Thanks for writing back. How is everything going? My dad and I are looking into this together and he is really set on the idea. I'm still riding the fence. I'm a nursing student at University of Cincinnati and am pretty current on surgical risks. So that scares me. At the same time, I'm tired of being so tired all of the time. So, here I am. Any ideas? This is actually kind of frustrating, you know? Thanks and good luck,
Guest guest
It is a tough decision. I know the struggle well. I have gotten to the point that I know it's time for drastic measures. My thinking is along the lines of, do I want to continue life like this, and are the risks worth it. I feel that they are!!!! Please give me a call anytime -Home is or at work .
