Guest guest
Hi Mark, I am scared of that. After lunch it was 181. I had a Mexican dinner from Weight Watchers. I had some salsa that was made here in Nebraska. I walked through some of the rooms in my house. I don't have any exercise equipment yet. I just got some new medicine called Renuvia. I think that is what it is called, something like that. Guest guest
nothing wrong with just walking in your house. I have a path that takes me in a circle that I try to walk once an hour for ten minutes as many times a day as I can. then I also ride my no where bike. my doc told me to not sit for more then 2 total hours in a day from can see, until can't see. he mainly told me to stay on my feet and move in any kind of a way if I'm only walking in a circle. of course some folks can't walk or not sit for only 2 hours because of health issues and if this is the case they must find other ways of moving there muscles. I tried those TV dinners a long time back and found most were not very tasty and still had to many carbs. sure thankful I can cook and dig doing it. I like to cool larger amount so I can freeze my own dinner for later. A friend of mine who use to have a drinking problem said she kicked the bad habit when she finally simply got done with it. she also stopped smoking and is now loosing weight with the same attitude. she says you just got to finally get to the point where you have had enough and decide you are done with the addiction no matter what it is that is your weakness. my deal right now is I like to go to the casino and we in Oklahoma only got about 100 here. I ask a fellow one day that was playing a slot machine next to me, what did we do with our money before the casino got here? he said it looked like he and I both spent it at the restaurant eating more then we needed. some of us humans will trade one addiction for another one, but the problem still remains with us. my lady friend that I told you about was the very last person I would have ever figured could kick any addiction just because she had enough of it messing up her life, but she hasn't drank, smoked for about ten years now and now she is losing pounds by getting out and walking before work. this is why when you talk to her she will admit she couldn't or wouldn't give up the bad habits like drinking and smoking simply because she wanted to continue doing it. I'm thinking if I couldn't cook, then I would have a very hard time eating right or controlling my sugar. to many ready to eat junk you can buy out there that is way bad. they may now have better frozen dinners then they did back in the 80's, but seems like I have read that when you take away the carbs and fat, then the food will taste as card board would taste. maybe they had something that taste good back in to make up for what they took out and it makes it just as bad for you? I really got no clue why your sugars are still to high. if it was me with the same problem you got I would be turning over every rock I could in order to find out why. those high numbers wouldn't be allowed to stay in my life if I could change it. back in high school a teacher got some information to share with the class about how a fat farm worked. I have heard of fat farms, but really didn't much think they was true. after linsting to what he read about it, I decided I wouldn't ever go to one. as it turned out later in life I should have went and at least learned what to do and not do. now days it is the stomach they tie up in a little sack and a knot instead. suppose to cause you to just eat a very small amount and feel full. know a couple that has done it and didn't turn out good up the road for either. seems to me taking the easy way out of a problem some times or maybe most of the time, will make the problem come back and remain in your life. once I told my doctor to give me a pill that I could take every morning and if I ate anything that day that wasn't good for me, then I would get sick and feel real bad. he said after a short time I would stop taking such a pill because I wouldn't wish to get sick after eating what I enjoyed eating. I know now he was right. I think I got very few needs and ten times more wants in my life. God makes sure I have all the needs I need, but then I pile on lots of wants and mess the plan all up. you may need to go see a diabetes specialist as I did to get you back on the right path to better sugar control. my regular doc tried to get it threw my thick head, but for some reason I ignored his advice. the diabetes specialist told me the same thing and I listened to his advice that was the same. some times we have to simply hear the same song and dance from a different person so we will believe. like you may listen to good advice from a friend a lot faster then you will from your Momma. If I could afford it and money wasn't a problem, then I would get rid of all the eats in the house and then pay some one who knew all about eating right for a diabetic to bring my meals in to me daily. my wife would hate this method, but it would work best for me. it is hard to run and grab a cup cake or bag of chips if they aren't in the house. of course I could still call a cab and go fetch me a box of doughnuts to enjoy on my own and if I did, then I would deserve the bad way it would make me feel. just goes to prove to me that only I can change my bad habits. no one can do it for me or even tell me if I decide not to listen. all those silly stupid diets I once tried and spent piles of money on never worked. they all in my opinions are set up to cause you to fall back to the same bad habits after a while. only I can change my family tree or any of my bad habits that are slowly killing me. like my lady friend talked about? I and you just have to make up our mind that we are done with it and then start living with out the habit that was causing all the problems. ever heard the saying, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired! this proves only I can change the way I feel and no one else or any kind of grate advice can change me or my bad habits. I use to blame every one and everything in my life for why I was over weight and had lots of health issues. I even blamed it on being blind. Mexican restaurants are my very favorite restaurants to go to, so I stopped going to them months ago because I would be bad and eat lots of stuff that was very bad for me and my sugar control. out of site, out of mind. this is probably why they tell you to get rid of all the foods in your house that aren't foods you need to eat. we all have heard all our life the saying, if I only knew then what I know now! probably if we would have we still would have made the same stupid choices because when we are young we don't really think the bad stuff will happen to us. we think it only happens to the other guy and it can't touch us. I got lots of friends that I use to run around with who have destroyed there bodies from drugs and alcohol and they all will tell you if they only knew it would have messed them up this bad, they wouldn't have done it for so many years. I decided six months ago I wasn't going to end up like one of them. I decided last February that only I could change my bad eating habits and control my diabetes, so I did! I simply had enough of landing up in the hospital do to high sugars. when they stand there by your bed and tell you how close you came to leaving this world because of sugar levels to high, then I should get your attention if you love life and feeling good. hearing about death is one thing, but looking it in the face up close seems to get our attention faster. I still slip up from time to time, but my ARC has been under six for six months now and it had been 13 last February of this year. that is 300 and more. I just had to get finished with the bad control before I could change it. well I certainly Pray you find out why your sugar is this high and you do what you need to in order to bring it down and hold it at a safe level. it is a hard road to hold at first, but it is all worth it once you get down the road a piece. once you been on the road of good control a while, then you can't get off of it for long at all before you get right back on. it is only the beginning that seems to be the hardest. some one told me they got a talking meter that tells you how many steps you have walked in a day. going to get me one and you should as well if you can afford it. this way you can keep track of your steps and try to build up to 10,000 steps in a day. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Monday, October 01, 2012 3:26 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: morning sugar Hi Mark, I am scared of that. Guest guest
Hi Mark, This morning it was 157. I had some watermelon last night later because I got hungry while reading a book. I did do the water thing. At least it wasn't candy and cookies. After meal last it was 165 and before meal last night it was 140. I know you're telling the truth. I'm really trying. At least I am taking it now, and I am starting to realize you really have to watch what you put in your mouth. I only bought a few dinners from weight watchers. They do taste better than they used too. Last night I had a baked potato with some salad dressing to replace the butter and a tomato and some crab salad. I can cook some things. Guest guest
The less complex the food, the better, I'm not sure about cottage cheese, but the fruit is probably okay. You need to do checks 2 hours after a meal, Becky. This is crucial. When you're planning menus, think, fiber, hole grain, lots of low carb vegetables ( peas, carrots, can be higher in carbs), and a modest portion of protein. It might be the South Beach Diet that suggests envisioning your meal plate like this: Half of the plate would be covered with healthy vegetables (yes, some vegetables are healthier than others), one quarter would be a healthy carbohydrate (preferably a high fiber one), and the remaining quarter of your plate would be healthy meat. If you need to lose weight, make the carbohydrate portion even smaller. Also, remember, think simple. Creams, sauces, gravies, etc., add fat and carbohydrates, and are generally of no nutritional benefit. Guest guest
the farther you stay away from the 200 range the better you will be. drop to 150 as much as you can and then go for 125 next. I have found if I eat a few nuts like walnuts or almonds with fruit it doesn't cause my sugar to spike. seems like when I just eat fruit and nothing with it, my sugar will spike pretty high at first. don';t eat to many nuts though because they may be good for you and a healthy snack, but still high in fat. water melon is good, but only any small amounts. seeing as how it is mostly sugar water, I won't eat it at bed time my self. I will eat some strawberries instead or even a couple of slices of an orange, but not the whole orange or my sugar will jump up to high. glad to hear the frozen dinners have got better in taste. also grate to know you can cook some. try making you a pot of soup with lots of fresh or frozen veggies. use beef or chicken for meat if you like meat. soup is grate this time of year and you could have a cup or so every day until it was gone. this way you are getting a low crab meal that is good for you and it will last maybe five days depending on the size of the pot you make. now I think hot home made soup of any kind is good any time of the year. I don't care if it is 110 out side. I will still eat a bowl of hot soup. salads I do like better though in the summer. I will still eat salad in the winter, but not like soup in the summer. now as far as salad dressing goes on a potatoes? I would be careful there. lots of salad dressing is really high in carbs for no more then a serving that they count. I would rather have yogurt or real butter with some sour cream. seems to me it will taste much better to me and I can have a bit more then a tea spoon of dressing. grill some onions in a bit of olive oil in a skillet and use this for the topping on your baked potatoes. actually grilled onions are good with most any kind of food you eat, except it may not be tasty on cereal! _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2012 8:36 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: morning sugar Hi Mark, This morning it was 157. Guest guest
What you are probably taking is Jeneuvia. It makes your BG go down after eating. Becky you really need someone to read you ingredients on the boxes and cans you use. Anything Mexican is most often high in carbs and fats. That includes the frozen dinners. Do you not cook at all? Perhaps it would benefit you to get hooked up with your local State Dept. of Rehabilitation and their counselor for the blind. The counselor could send you to an adult school for the blind where you could learn to cook as well as acquire other living skills. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Becky McCullough Sent: Monday, October 01, 2012 1:26 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: morning sugar Hi Mark, I am scared of that.
