glad you have joined our happy family. some of us are nuts, but very

full of grate information for grate sugar control. Advice here cost a lot

though, but the first 72 hours is free. you say you have a problem with

eating? well suppose we mostly all can relate to the same problem. if you

like the taste of the food you are eating, then hurry and spit it out! like

water? you really need to fall in love with water. is your best friend your

blood glucose meter? well if it isn't, then you need to do some mighty fast

buttering up and have it become your very best friend over night. now, I

figure if you weigh more to day then you did when you were born, then I will

agree you like to eat! the problem lies in what you dig eating and how big

is the amount you eat at one time? seeing as how last year at this same time

I was weighing in at close to 350, but to day it is close to 280. finally

figured out the amount of food I could eat at one setting wasn't good for me

and all those sweet snacks were killing me! I found out I was a T 2 back in

2002, but had to have a heart attack in 2007 before I even gave it a second

thought of maybe I should look at food a bit different. still continued with

many bad eating habits until February of this year when sugars were between

300 and 400 all the time. landed my pig butt in the hospital with more heart

trouble! had my A 1 C coming in at better then 13, but in the past six

months it has been 5.9 and 5.8. wonder why? well that last heart issue got

my attention even though they told me I just about passed from this world.

looking death in the face and having a real good clue that you could have

prevented it just by eating right and exercising daily? well this will make

you stop and reflect on life and just how important it is to you. now we all

know there is good snacks and bad snacks and most of us big people dig the

bad snacks the best. we have always known what the good snacks are, but who

in there right mind would sit around at a party and eat celery and radishes?

Actually it isn't as bad as I make it sound, but all those snacks you can

tare open and eat mostly are made of lots of crabs. lots of us like to eat

more of those foods that we love to eat because it is very enjoyable to do

so. the truth is chocolate taste better and feels better in our hand and

mouth then celery or a radish does. Now we could dip our radish in

chocolate? well it certainly isn't easy to change a life time of bad eating

habits for a fact and you aren't any different then the rest of us. it is a

24 seven battle as Sir Dave always reminds us and he is so smart. he is a T

1, but we both follow a lot of the same eating habits and don't you dare for

get about exercise. I know to a person who likes to eat, exercise is a nasty

word to be throwing around. I have me a no where bike that I try very hard

to ride for 2 hours a day. don't always because life gets in my way some

times, but every day I make it a point to go every where on my no where

bike. don't ever think you will never eat any of the grate kinds of food

that you dig, because this isn't true. you can and will, but only you will

in small amounts and not big huge piles as you have in the past. smaller

portions is how it works. the same song and dance you have heard all your

life and it is still the facts after all this time. make better choices, eat

less and exercise daily for at least one hour. better to get that hour in

all at one time, but we are only humans and some times we hate to do such

things as exercise of any kind for more then ten minutes at a time. so do

this if it is the only way and add it up until you get one hour. sooner then

later you will increase the exercise to more then ten minutes and you will

even learn to enjoy it. ever heard the saying, doing the same things, but

hopping for different results. this is exactly what I done for more years

then I like to admit. no one could change me or my bad habits. it was a

change that only I could do and make it work. I pointed my finger of blame

at every one and everything, but never did I figure I was the one to blame.

the disease of diabetes really doesn't care if you change or not. it is

actually a slow moving disease and takes you in small bites and then one day

you look up and you aren't whole any more. a foot has to be cut off or maybe

a leg. then maybe your kidnies stop working. maybe you loose your eyes or

you have a heart attack as I did and Harry did. plus it can simply make you

feel like a big pile of dog poop after a while of high sugar. when you stop

and think on all you can loose, then it makes it a bit harder to eat the bad

snacks like ice cream and doughnuts. I love doughnuts, but never have I ate

a doughnut or seen one that was worth loosing my leg or foot over. I know my

foot wouldn't taste as good as the doughnut will, but a doughnut doesn't

make a good foot either. learning how to change bad eating habits over to

better choices isn't going to happen over night for most folks. take baby

steps, but start to day. don't put those changes off like I did and have a

heart attack that can take you out. if you got the will to change, then

there is always a way. first thing is you have to get your attitude right

and be tired of living as you have. once you get to this point, then you

have all ready won haf the battle. lots of fine folks on this list who have

been through the battles and came out the other side still in one piece.

they won't sugar coat it for you though and this is because they care. you

will learn things here that your doctor has never told you and probably

won't. don't be afraid to ask any question no matter how silly you think it

is. I ask plenty of silly questions my self and I learned from them all. all

your yesterday's are now behind you and can't be changed, but to day you can

change and do better. you stick around here with these fine folks and learn

and be blessed by these grate wonderful folks as they have blessed us all.

good luck and welcome to the loving home for all diabetics.
