In the past, Canadian families that supported organ donation were often told their loved one was not eligible to donate because he or she didn't meet the criteria for brain death. But because of a procedure successfully completed at The Ottawa Hospital last June, which allows for organ donation after cardiac death (DCD), this is no longer the case. This wonderful legacy and the tremendous memories we have sustain our family and friends during these difficult times.
