Guest guest
Hi Garnet, For longer term benefits, Dr Nase recommended taking the Ester version of Vitamin C (Ester C), in conjunction with grape seed extract. He specifically recommended Ester C, and the Source Naturals brand Proanthodyn grape seed extract. Ester C is easier on the stomach, stays in the body longer, and is more bioavailable than regular Vitamin C. I use Natrol brand Ester C with bioflavonoids (the bioflavonoids quercitin and rutin are also beneficial to vessels). I buy these products from vitaminshoppe.com, which has very low prices and a $5 shipping charge. Using these products might help you in the long run, and should help stabilize your condition for the time being. Below are Dr Nase' recommended starting dosages and comments, courtesy of Jen. <<< Dr. Nase's suggested starting doses for Ester C and GSE are: 250 mg ester C + 100 mg grape seed extract 3x daily, then increase doses gradually. Also, for those who have asked for more info about the Ester C and grapeseed extract combination for rosacea, here is a list of benefits that Dr. Nase gave me: These are the two single most important supplements that everyone can take for rosacea based on: 1. Blood vessel wall strengthening - decrease enzyme activity that breaks down collagen 2. Anti-inflammatory effect - potent 3. Free radical scavenging - stops viscous cascade of damage to inner lining of blood vessels 4. Minor actions on stabilizing mast cell activity 5. Decreases edema 6. Decreases stickiness of platelets in blood - thinner stream of blood 7. Decreases chemotaxis of inflammatory immune cells into epidermis - less papules and pustules 8. Decreases histamine and gastrin release in gut -- in addition to other various cytoprotective actions on gut wall and permeability abnormalities << Below are the target dosages that Dr Nase recommended *slowly* working up to: (Body weight) Under 150lbs - Try to work up to 1,000mg Ester C + 200mg grape seed extract - 3x daily (Body weight) Above 150lbs - Try to work up to 2,000mg Ester C + 200mg grape seed extract - 3x daily These are obviously high dosages of Ester C. I recommend gradually working up from 250mg, and if you begin experiencing problems, lower the dosage. Be sure to take these supplements with plenty of water, and some food if possible. ~Jim
