Maybe this is because I'm a type 1 on insulin, not type 2, but there's

nothing consistent about my reaction to exercise.

I walk every morning the same amount/distance at the same time - an hour

after breakfast, for 30 minutes. Most of the time my BG goes down,

anywhere from 10 to 50 points; occasionally it stays the same. Now and

then (and I haven't figured out why this is) it actually goes UP.

Which is one of the reasons I always test before and after exercise.

Hi Sunny,

Does the Gazelle thing fold up well? I'd like to find something that I can

put out of sight when I'm not using it. I had a Nordic Track for awhile but

it took up so much space. Also, if you don't mind me asking how much did it

cost?

I don't know how small they fold up, but in Sunday's paper Walgreen " s

circular for this week advertised the Gazelle, I think for 199.99, and

you could buy it over the internet, or in the store, so maybe if you

have a Walgreens near you, you can see if they have one in the store,

just to see how it folds up,

It folds up pretty easy and it would fit under the bed

I think. I probably won't take it down unless I'm

having company (it's in the living room) If I put it

up all the time I have a tendency to forget it - out

of sight out of mind. I bought mine used off of Ebay

for $23.00. I've seen the basic model new at Walmart

for around $90.00. The 2nd hand sports stores usually

have them also. Set up, it uses a lot less room then a

treadmill. I know what a Nordic track is, but I can't

picture how much room it uses, so i can't compare.

Way to go!!!!!! You will never waste your time when it comes to exercise. I am

Pre-OP and I started exercising and losing weight BEFORE they told me how much I

needed to lose. It is never to early to learn those healthy ways!...lol I truly

believe it will help also when recovering from the surgery. Keep up the good

work! You will be a loser in no time!

have at my job, after my surgery so I can lose as much weight as I

possibly can (within reason).

I know surgery alone, will not be enough for me to reach my goal weight.

Yes, exercise was a requirement to get surgery where I live. You must exercise

regularly before and after surgery to be successful. I do water aerobics and

deep water running, and walking. I lost 51 lbs before surgery, and am almost 3

months out. I have lost 98 lbs since this last January. I love exercise.

Way to go on the exercising and weight loss Audrey! Exercising is

NEVER wasting your time.

Keep it up because it is definitely going to help you on your journey.

The healthier you are when you have surgery, the easier your recovery

should be.

Shaul,

It is true for me. I feel better generally

when I exercise regularly. I also understand from people who already had their

transplant it helps to be in an as good as possible shape when you get to the

point that you need transplant. It appears that things are " easier "

when your shape is better, less depression, less fatigue.

I told one of my drs. that my weight-bearing exercise consisted of

standing up several times a day, and that my aerobic exercise was

walking from my recliner to the bathroom every several hours! At first

he thought I was just joking, but then he realized I was dead serious!

Somehow, it seems some PSC patients have a good capacity for physical

exertion (Klug comes to mind ... and also Mike Z., Arne, and many

others whose names escape me at this hour). Others of us are exhausted

just thinking about taking a walk!

For those who can -- keep it up!!! You'll have a definite advantage

when it comes to recovering from transplant surgery.

For those who can't -- try setting even the teensiest tiniest of goals

and do your best to reach them. I can now manage to walk one tenth of a

mile at the blazing speed of 1 mph, but it leaves me huffing and

puffing, and wiped out for the rest of the day. But I feel good being

able to accomplish that much since it's a lot more than I could do just

a few months ago.

Take care,
