Guest guest
Well I had my hearing 2 weeks ago and was notified I was found fully favorable. That sounds like a good thing. But no one has any idea when the checks will start. I called SS and they told me I had all ready met the 2 year waiting period for medicare/medicade. Any ideas on what to expect and when? Guest guest
Tony, Congratulations!! I"m not sure what you should expect time wise. My case was different in that I was approved right off and didn't have to go through the appeal and hearing process. I remember I had a direct deposit in my checking account before I had any notification that I was approved. I called SS and was told verbally that I was approved and that it was ok to use that money! I got my formal approval letter in the mail a couple of days later. I'm so happy that you've been approved and that you've already met the 2 year waiting period for Medicare. My Medicare kicks in this November after my two years of waiting and it's a HUGE relief! Beth Age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 UCTD 07/08 Change everything. Guest guest
Tony Congratulations and when is completely unpredictable. Generally they'd like to get it on processed and off their desks, but it can always sit on someones desk for who knows why. Now, if you signed for direct deposit, your first knowledge may be the money in the bank and then the letter explaining after. Meanwhile you probably want to be looking at medicare plans for your area including prescription plans. Guest guest
My Medicare starts in December but and on my card I'm eligible for A and B parts but I'm still confused. At my medicaid office I applied for preimum assistance to help pay for part B but I don't know if I actually have to apply to a supplement plan cause to me it seems like they have everything. Does a supplement plan just help pay off what they don't? /23/North Ridgeville Ohio DEC 2005 - Diagonsed w/ Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (2 yrs remission) SEPT 2006 - Autologus bone marrow transplant (2 yrs post transplant) JULY 2007 - Lungs collapses (hospital visit) JUNE/AUG/SEPT 2008 - Pulmonary Fibrosis due to chemotherapy/3 hospital visits > > Well I had my hearing 2 weeks ago and was notified I was found fully > favorable. Guest guest
Kim, I'm currently working my way through the Medicare maze. I become eligible in November so I'm making all the same decisions and facing the same questions you are. The best help and most knowledgable folks I've found is with the Caring Voice Coalition. As a matter of fact I have a phone app't with Barbara Howell, a Reimbursement Specialist with Caring Voice. Her phone number is ext 167. She's extremely knowledgable and knows how to help us get the most coverage that's available for us as pulmonary fibrosis patients. I would highly recommend you give her a call to walk you through your options. It's very comforting to have someone help me make these extremely important decisions when I'm easily distracted and somewhat easily confused. To answer your question as best I understand it a supplement or "Medigap" plan helps to cover the things that Medicare doesn't. Beth Age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 UCTD 07/08 Change everything. Guest guest
, Yes, the supplement pays for what ever Medicare A and B do not pay. But , you will have part B insurance premiums deducted from your SSDI. They automatically do that. So, It's not free!!!Part A is but not B. Part A is just hospitalization not anything else. Find someone who really uinderstands the supplements to go over your choices. It took my husband and i several weeks to figure out which one to select. Also, you'll need to select a prescription plan too...now that's a nightmare! Please have someone really sit down with you. Mike and I don't even have the same drug plan,.for example I hope you're feeloing a bit stronger and that your week-end is drier than ours. Guest guest
I am still on Medicaid (got approved for another year last week @ my eligiblity meeting) so I will still have drug coverage. Plus Medicare sent me a purple colored letter saying I will have extra help with scripts and all I would have to do is show my pharmacy the letter or something -- have to look at it again. I know my Medicare will become primary and my Medicaid will become secondary once December rolls around. I'm just waiting for the letter from the application I filled out for my caseworker cause I know I'll be accepted..just a feeling I got. > > > > Well I had my hearing 2 weeks ago and was notified I was found fully > > favorable.
