Guest guest
Hello everyone! I'm back! Hope all is doing well or as well as can be expected with PSC. I have been doing great since my transplant in 12/25/2004 but last Monday I went to have my monthly labs done and the Alk. Phos was up (still in the normal range but way up from where it has been) and my GGT was in the high range. Talked with my cordnator and she said that I might have a stricture. How common is it for people, after transplant, to get strictures? Guest guest
My son's alk phos popped up suddenly after 18 months of perfect. The dr said that stricture is the #1 cause but there were other possibilites that were not a biggy. They repeated his teste to week in a row and the # was back to normal. Guest guest
Hi Nikki in N C, I was tx on Aug 2,2002 and in 2005 I got sick and my blood test showed positive for gram negative. Seems that my bile duct/ intestine tie in narrowed down and gave me anasty blood infection called klebsiella (have not used it in a while, maybe mispelled), because the bile backed up into the blood stream. I ended up with a stent and a drain tube in my tummy for a couple of months, but everything is fine now. Better than fine, great. Probably not your problem, but all knowledge may be useful. Hope all turns out fine. Tim L --
Guest guest
My strictures in all three of my transplanted ducts (living donor receipient here) appeared just six weeks after transplant. It took a while for them to nail down the cause, then they put in stents. The external stents stayed in for six months. At the end of that time, my lab values were much improved, so we removed them. The bile flow is still not perfect, but I'm on Urso to keep it moving. It wasn't a pleasant process, but it seems to have helped. All I can say is that everything I've read about strictures is that they occur in anywhere from 15% to 26% transplants. Those are numbers I'm pulling out of my head from past reading, though. My team acted like it was especially common problem for living donor transplants... Guest guest
Thanks to all that have responded to my post. I am to get labs done in the morning again and if they are still high or even higher, then they are going to do an ERCP to see if the reason is a stricture and if so stent it, or see if the PSC is coming back, which I hope it is not! Thanks again to all. Nikki Transplant: 12/25/2004
Guest guest
Hello all- My transplant was June 2004, and my Alk Phos has been slowly climbing as well, and is now slightly above spec. I'm also concerned this is the start of a recurrence, but we'll have to just wait and see. Jon > > Thanks to all that have responded to my post. Guest guest
I had my transplant in Sept '06 and in January they had to install a stent where they connected my bile duct to the intestine. They called it surgical scaring. Before they found the problem I thought my psc came back. --- jms_758 wrote: > Hello all- > > My transplant was June 2004, and my Alk Phos has > been slowly climbing > as well, and is now slightly above spec. Guest guest
Jon: Hate to hear your Alk. Phos is going up. Hoepfully, it will go back down and is not a rejection. I had to have my labs redone again today and now all of my liver enzymes are in the " high " range. They are thinking that it is rejection. I wish you the very best. Keep me posted. Guest guest
Lee, Thanks for the kind words - me, too, I could sure use " boring " for a while! I've been off-line a lot trying to get my life back now that I'm feeling somewhat better. I still have a few hurdles to overcome, but mentally, I'm focusing on the positive (which was hard to do this past year). Hope all is well - I think of you and Bill often...
